The idea that they are "taking a year off" so they can come back stronger is ludicrous. Its PR to try and keep the value of the franchise up in case someone else from somewhere else wants to buy it. Think of all those teams down South ( Columbus, Pee Dee etc) who said they were taking the year off and were never heard from again.
My concern is what this do to the other teams back there--especially Elmira which is always near the bottom of the league in attendance along with Wheeling. Those three don't make up a strong division either in numbers, attendance, or proximity. As the nearest team to Wheeling I would hate to see us dragged into that division with its long bus rides--especially if some of the remaining Midwest based CHL leagues join up next year making such a move more likely for the Clones. It is now 5 teams versus three and any new teams joining from the CHL would make the distribution between the divisions even more lopsided without moving at least one team to the Atlantic Division. |

That's my fear too dbc. It would make it a lot harder on the team financially too to be spending so much time traveling. Plus it would destroy fledgling rivalries.
On a side note, since all of Trenton's players are now UFA's, anyone know if the Clones can grab one of their goalies as a backup to Houser? |

| wouldn't the Clones have a say in the matter? It would be easy to prove that the Clones would have significant higher travel costs than any other team. My first impression would be not to worry. |

Well Elmira's First Arena holds just over 3,000 and they avg 2,400 this year so the fans show up and fill the barn but because the barn is small to begin with it will be close to the bottom of the league. However the team cost are going up as well so will that hurt them in the end? That remains to be seen and decided. Unfortunately its minor league hockey.........but I doubt Trenton will be back in 14-15, its PR politics. |
