Great profile for an ECHL coach. Young, AHL experience, NHL player-but as an organizational depth player. Resume very similar to Skalde's in many ways.
Was member of 2000-01 Orlando Solar Bears Turner Cup Championship team along with Skalde, Todd Richards-thje CBJ coach- and Chuck Weber. Also part of AHL Calder Cup winner with Chicago Wolves in 2002. Rockford's head business guy is Gordon Kaye who used to be with Reading, so Kristen Ropp and Ray Harris had an inside source on Simon's work ethic, character as well as insight from Weber and Skalde. Not an unknown quantity in any way to the Cyclones management team. They know what they're getting.

Ben Simon was a really good defensive forward and penalty killer during his playing career. He'll be able to teach young players the essential parts of the game. Appears to be a solid choice. |

". I would hope that they would have some NHL or extensive AHL playing experience because I think it is as important to have someone able to teach these kids what pro hockey is between the ears and not just x's and o's which are the same x's and o's these kids have been taught for years"
Looks like that is what they did. Good luck to him. |

Another link with Simon is the new San Antonio coach,Peter Horachek who was the Orlando head coach on the 2000-01 team. Still another link with the Cyclones is our former assistant coach, Scott Fankhouser ! Hockey is one big family with links all over the place .

I guess it was destiny that the Solar Bears family produces another Cyclones head coach LOL.... this was a great selection by the Clones. He was tutored well in how to develop players by an organization who just won the Stanley Cup, and he has been a player and coach for people who know how to win with what they are given... I am excited for the pick in coaches and I welcome Ben Simon as coach! |
