Geoffrion brings family tradition to Cincinnati

September 26, 2013

CINCINNATI, Ohio – The Cincinnati Cyclones, ECHL affiliate of the NHL’s Florida Panthers and Nashville Predators, announced that they have agreed to terms with forward Sebastian Geoffrion for the 2013-14 season.

Geoffrion, a 24-year-old Brentwood, Tenn. native, will participate in his first full season as a pro after completing a four-year college career at the University of Alabama-Huntsville. Shortly after finishing school last spring, he skated in nine games with the Arizona Sundogs of the Central Hockey League, where he posted six points (4g-2a) and 27 penalty minutes. While with UAH, the five-foot-ten-inch forward collected 17 points (8g-9a) in 106 collegiate games. He was named an alternate captain during his junior and senior seasons. Geoffrion helped lead the Chargers to the CHA title in 2009-10.

Geoffrion comes from a hockey-rich bloodline, as he his a fourth-generation professional player; his great-grandfather, Howie Morenz was a Hall-of-Fame center for the Montreal Canadiens in the early 1900’s. Geoffrion’s grandfather, Bernie, spent 14 years in a Canadiens jersey during the 1950’s and 1960’s; his number “5” is retired and hanging in the rafters at the Bell Centre. His father, Danny, also earned NHL experience, skating with the Canadiens and Winnipeg Jets. Even Sebastien’s brother, Blake, has seen time at hockey’s highest level – appearing for the Canadiens and Nashville Predators.

Two Hall of Famers on the family tree. Not bad! Boom Boom Geoffrion was great as the color analyst for the Atlanta Flames on TBS.

Not a big goal scorer, but he did score almost as many in short pro stint as he did 4 years in college. Think his game more fitting for pro game, more agitator/energy guy.
