Kevin Dineen has been fired as coach of the Florida Panthers.
The team made the announcement Friday, one day after their losing streak reached seven with a 4-1 loss at Boston. Also fired were assistants Gord Murphy and Craig Ramsay.
Peter Horachek is the Panthers' interim head coach. He has been the coach of the team's AHL affiliate in San Antonio. The Panthers have also hired former players Brian Skrudland and John Madden as assistant coaches.
The Panthers have three wins in 16 games this season and are 14th in the Eastern Conference. Dineen was 56-62-28 in parts of three seasons, leading the Panthers to the 2012 Southeast Division title.
Panthers general manager Dale Tallon says "it was clear that our team needed a change in philosophy and direction."
Wonder what this means to Chuck in SA? No word yet on their web site |

The Panthers have named Tom Rowe the new head coach of the San Antonio Rampage.
Rowe's a good coach. He previously coached in the AHL with Lowell and Albany and was an assistant coach for a couple years in the NHL with Carolina. He was the head coach of a team in the KHL last season.
Rowe was also the first American-born player in NHL history to score 30 goals or more in a season when he played for Washington in the 70's.
Chuck Weber will remain as the associate coach/director of player personnel in the final year of his contract.

Tom Rowe was named new HC in SA.
This decision apparently would spell the end of Weber's coaching career within the Florida organization.
I was told that Weber's long term goals were front office oriented rather than coaching oriented.
It will be interesting to see where Weber is at this time next season. In any case, I wish him well. He's certainly had a very nice run for a man who came into the professional game with very limited credentials. |

Weber's future will likely be back in the ECHL or college hockey. He's a great recruiter. That's where he belongs. |

It would be interesting to see if this will also be the last year with the Panthers organization since we went to Florida probably because of Weber going there. Nashville/Milwaukee have been pretty stable in terms of an affiliate and who they send down its going to be interesting what happens over the summer, but were not there yet. |

The Cyclones are with Florida because of assistant-GM Mike Santos. As long as he remains the assistant-GM, good chance of the affiliation continuing. |
