I attended yesterday's game and thought the play by both teams was pretty sloppy and choppy. Lots of incomplete passes and fumbled pucks when not under duress. Also, the Cyclones had prime shooting opportunities and passed them up in favor of making an extra pass or stick handling, only to cough up the puck. With this team's lack of scoring prowess, it seems like they may want to get pucks on net and chase the rebounds.
The PP is still abysmal and without Madore saving the Cyclones' bacon multiple times throughout the game, Evansville would have walked away with a victory. I hope the rest of the team bought Madore dinner last night.
Any other observations?

It's the ECHL. The play is going to be sloppy and choppy at times. You're going to see lots of incomplete passes, forced plays and making the wrong decisions with the puck at this level because of the inexperience. Many of the players are in their first or second year as pros. |

In the first ten minutes Evansville did not challenge the Cyclones coming out of our own end and the Cyclones looked great like they did the first two games skating fast ( their strength) and as a result of so much open ice movement, freely creating lots of chances at the net. It looked like a continuation of the 7-0 win in Evansville.
After that things went 180 degrees as Evansville began forechecking down low in our zone and the defensemen stayed in the zone at the point and that, as seen in the recent losses, is the Cyclone's weakness. We can't carry the puck out when pressured with strong forechecking and out attempts to chip the puck out along the boards were very often stopped at the blue line by their defensemen. The average time the puck was in our defensive zone per possession was waaaay too long as was the case with Greenville and Orlando.
I agree that Madore kept us in the game as did Hauser Friday night. This team has now played six home games and gone 4-2 but ALL four victories were either in OT (1) or shoot outs (3) where their speed and individual skills can be utilized better than 5 on 5. No regulation wins at home in six games!! This team plays well in the open ice where their speed can be used, but as soon as forechecked or challenged along the boards our softness shows up. As I said in a previous thread, while I agree with and applaud the trade to Utah, both Aubin and Pelech, while relatively slow, knew how to take control on the boards at both ends of the ice and I don't see that skill set showing up elsewhere on the current roster |

Yes, I know it's the ECHL. I've had season tickets for years. However, the level of play for this team seems to have regressed. Yesterday was a particularly pronounced example of it.
