Dating back to 1990, who do you think is the Greatest Cyclones Player of All-Time?

Greatest to wear a Cyclones jersey, or greatest WHILE wearing a Cyclones jersey? |

Loved Paul Lawless and Don Biggs but Barret always seemed to give all he had when on the ice. Dennis didn't win a championship like Weber but the job he did with an ECHL level team the first year in the IHL was unbelievable.
Ehgoetz wouldn't have made any of the IHL Cyclones teams.
Donnie-what was your question ? Who is the greatest player of all times while playing with the Cyclones ? Barret to me played the greatest on the teams he was on. He didn't play in the IHL era so how can you say he wouldn't have done the job then. Former Cyclone Erik Cole may be the best player but we aren't talking AHL / NHL/ level. |

Hard to be the greatest, Bags, when 200-plus players that wore a Cyclones uniform were better.
I can safely say Eghoetz wouldn't have done the job in the IHL era because he wasn't good enough to have been able to play at that level. He was an average-at-best player at the ECHL level. |

This is what pisses me off w/ you DH. You ask a question and when someone gives a different answer you fire back at them. If you asked who was your favorite Cyclone of all time, my answer would be Ian Kidd. I doubt if any one else would name him but that is mine. Like I said, Barret was a leader of the team the entire time he was there and I don't ever remember him not giving full effort while on the ice. Other's I have. I haven't seen your answer yet. My guess I will disagree but I won't say your wrong or 200 others were better. By the way, your saying that Barret was not in the top 200 of players JUST BASED on their Cyclone play. Does anyone else agree with that statement ? |

There were a number of players on the original ECHL Cyclones that were better players than him such as Craig Charron, Martin St. Amour, Kevin Dean, David Craievich, Steve Cadieux, Kevin Kerr, Howie Rosenblatt, Kevin Scott, Shaun Cloutson and Tom Nezoil.
Len Barrie was a terrific minor league player, one of the top five minor league players in Cincinnati hockey history, but he wasn't a leader. He was a very selfish player and was the ringleader in getting Dennis Desrosiers fired during the 1993-94 season. But based on what he did on the ice, he's in the argument for Greatest Player in Cyclones history.
Nobody was better than Paul Lawless was after he joined the Cyclones in 1992-93, when he had 54 points (29 goals, 29 assists) in just 29 games. He didn't put forth the same effort on a nightly basis after that season the rest of his Cyclones career, going back to being the same type of player that frustrated coaches throughout his career with his unwillingness to compete every night and take the game seriously.
I'd go with Dave Tomlinson as the Greatest Player in Cyclones history. In two seasons with the IHL Cyclones from 1994-96, he recorded 206 points on 77 goals and 129 assists in 159 games. In addition to his offensive numbers, he was a really good defensive forward. He was a better all-around player than Len Barrie but Barrie was better from the blueline in.
Tomlinson, Barrie, Eakins, Dionne, Desharnais are my overall top 5.
Even though I didn't think he'd play in the NHL and questioned whether he'd hold up in the AHL due to his size (or lackthereof), I thought Desharnais was one of the most skilled players I'd seen play for a Cincinnati-based team.
Ian Kidd...he was a good guy. He was one of my favorite players during the years I was involved with the Cyclones.
The Greatest Player overall in Cincinati hockey history, in my opinion, is Robbie Ftorek. He was a phenomenal player. Former Swords and Stingers star and current Montreal Canadiens assistant-GM Rick Dudley told me Ftorek was the best center he ever played with, which is saying something since he played with Gilbert Perreault in Buffalo. |

I respect all your choices but many were here for only one year. Again your judgement was not to rely on non-Cyclone play, so Robbie Ftorek is not eligible. Dionne with his "rabbit-ears" was easily swayed into retaliation penalties against opponents so I don't count him in the top 5 but yes the top 20. Kevin Kerr and Howie Rosenblatt were great fan favorites, but not top ten material in the importance to Cyclone success. I have no problem with your top 5 players being in the top 15, but each fan has what they like in a player. Based on what they did for the teams they played for, I'll take Eghoetz over Tomlinson based on the longer playing time and less talent around him. I think most people agree 2008 was loaded but we had no business in the finals for 2010. Pure grit got us there. |

I wasn't including Ftorek with the Cyclones. I just noted he was the the greatest player overall that wore a Cincinnati uniform. Of course since he was only here for two years, I'm sure Eghoetz was better than Ftorek in your book.
Every player that's played for the ECHL Cyclones had less talent around them than Tomlinson.
Eghoetz was an average-at-best player in the ECHL throughout his career. What he contributed on the ice was easily replaceable.
Kerr and Rosenblatt were both better players than Eghoetz. |

Loaded for the ECHL level, that is. Wouldn't have beat any lineup the 1992-93 IHL Cyclones put on the ice in a best-of-three, best-of-five or best-of-seven series.

Did you really expect anything less from him? Hell, not alot of people have watched every single hockey game played in Cincinnati so of course nobody is going to know the correct answer according to all knowing god Donnie Troll Hockey. |

Thank you Randy for giving another name. I would put Desharnais in the top 5 with no problem because like Eghoetz he always played every minute on the ice. Similar to what is happening with DD in the NHL, Eghoetz wasn't always the big scorer on the team but more the playmaker that assisted those around him. Not a big Aubin fan because of his early play and effort, but he did step up when named captain and finally played both ways on the ice. He would be in my top 20. Darn, now I expect someone to retaliate w/ comments about this post. |

There are too many factors to determine the "best", so I'll go with my favorites. My favorite IHL Cyclone player was without a doubt Gilbert Dionne. I will never forget watching him win the MVP of the '99 IHL all-star game when I was a kid (despide the fire alarms going off throughout the game). For a 15 year old kid, that was unbelievable.
As for the ECHL Cyclones, my favorite player has to be Dustin Sproat. He was always my favorite simiply because he seemed to score a goal every single game I went to. I'd tell all my friends he was going to score that night, and sure enough he'd almost always prove me right.
