First off, hat's off to the Evansville fan club for their support of
their team. They did the same thing last year at the one late season
game when the team was dead for the playoffs. Hope with Indy coming back
next year we can have two big rivals w/ traveling fans.
Now for the game.
Even though 5 goals were allowed, the goaltending saved the night. Howe
facing 25 shots in the first period alone should have every skater ashamed
of their night. Our skaters seemed like they were tired and Evansville
was rested. Funny how we played each other the previous night and both
had to travel from Evansville to here. Luckily for us, the team showed up
for the third period and almost won it in regulation. Madore was a beast
in the shootout and we got away with 4 points from the two games, but also
gave them 2.
Evansville IceMen...25...16...6...2...49 Shots in game per period with 49 total.
Defense has to get control of the puck and not let shot after shot on goal.

Sorry to correct Bags, but we both got three points. Fridays game we got one point, Evensville two points. Saturdays game Us two points, Evensville one point = three points a piece. We basically tied up the two game series. As Nick would say, no harm no foul.

Your right-I thought we had won in overtime at Evansville. We need a
clean regulation win today in Wheeling. Giving away overtime points
in the East can get you out of the playoffs ! Still wish our #9 would
be the #8 in the West playoffs.

Bags, you'll be happy to hear that Wheeling is planning a bus trip here this week. Let's hope we can send them home with a loss to stew about!

Last night's game was very fortuitous for the home squad. Talk about a goalie stealing a game!!! That's exhibit A. Everybody in that room should buy Howe a steak dinner for saving their bacon. When your team is on pace to give up 75 SOG after one period, you have some work to do. This team can't win if it continues to give up nearly 50 SOG a game. They need to shore up the D and clog up shooting and passing lanes. They really seem to give the opponents a lot of space to operate in their own zone. It would certainly help the Cyclone goalies if the other five would block some more shots.

Looks like McDonald and Simon have plenty to work on in practice this week.

You brought up a good point on the defense. I noticed two incidents last
night on defense in the third. First I saw McDonald move in and take a shot
off the shoulder and not sure who it was but I also saw one of our guys
clearly move clear of a shot right on goal. Luckily Madore was ready, but
you never want to let a shot get by you if you can.
Always remember one practice from the early Cyclones era. During pregame
warmups, Cyclones goalies seemed to take pride in stopping ALL shots.
Use to see less than ten pucks in the net when warmups were over. Sounds
like nothing but soft goals were rare by our goalies. I'm sure Howe wanted
that first goal back when he got caught in no man's land. Puck was ten feet
out and when he tried to get it, Evansville got there first for the shot.
