This is the lead from yesterday's Enquirer article:
"When it comes to playoff appearances – seven in the past eight seasons, including this one – there is no question the Cyclones are Cincinnati's most successful professional franchise of the past decade" (How about mentioning two championships too??)
Given this, I find it really sad and outrageous that this would be the first article in the paper about the team in months. Cyclone coverage is pathetic
Last nights game is given only a small insertion this morning that incorrectly states that the Clones are the 4th seeded team and Orlando is seeded #2.
In the mean time the ECHL web site coverage of both games uses links to the Orlando paper's article which includes quotes and analysis and a link to the Fort Wayne paper's coverage of the Komets upset of Reading with 11 seconds left. This game was in Reading yet the coverage includes quotes from players and coaches alike as well as a nearly three minute video that starts off with the winning goal. Funny how a small town can find the resources for such away coverage and a "big city" paper can't.
Keeping up with high school volleyball coverage though.

Not really funny at all. Both papers put the majority of their resources into the biggest teams in town. |

Ahhh--the we don't cover minor league sports in a major league city excuse. Guess the Orlando Magic doesn't exist.
Why then do the local TV stations here do stories, show video, have interviews, and recognize the existence of the Cyclones when the local paper doesn't. Can't be a lack of reader interest. Think there is more interest in the Madeira volleyball team than the Cyclones? Do they draw 4400 fans per game?
Can't be they don't think there is no local economic interest. If it wasn't for the Cyclones and their fans, USBA would be shut down. Go to The Banks before and after weekend games and there are Cyclone jerseys in all of the bars and restaurants. Maybe a little coverage by the local paper might increase the local economic impact even a bit more.
Don't tell me the game ends too late for them to cover the team. The TV channels cover the games for their 11PM news. Visiting teams somehow get coverage in their papers the next morning. Thanks goodness for the papers in all the other ECHL cities. I can at least go to their website the day after a game with the Cyclones whether it be here or there and read about the game
I think the Enquirer has blackballed the team except when they are forced to write an article or two. The Cyclones use to advertise in the Enquirer and they had coverage. They moved their advertising efforts elsewhere and the coverage ceased. Nice journalism.
Would love to hear from Nick Brunker on this but I am sure he really can't comment

For those of you interested in the other games, The ECHL website has an article that links to the newspaper articles from all seven playoff games last night from the hometown newspapers also providing the staff reporter who wrote them. Wonder what the website will do for coverage of Wednesday's game here? Either link to the Orlando paper or use Nick's post game summary I guess. |

The opportunity to get feature stories in the Enquirer is there. But it's on the Cyclones to pitch the story ideas. The information the Enquirer and other outlets primarily receive revolves around upcoming games, promotions and statistics.

Here is the link to the Orlando article about last night's 2nd game including quotes from players and coaches. A side bar in the article also has a link to 49 pictures from both games that are included on the Orlando Sentinel web site. Nice coverage of a minor league team in a major league city. The article was posted about 11pm last night

In the mean time, going blind looking for any mention of the game at all in todays Enquirer or its web site. |

Are we really that surprised that there were 1,700 fans in the building last night? We can boo hop all we want, but the fact of the matter is people don't show up to playoff games in this town unless you're DEEP in the playoffs. Hell, EVERYONE'S attendance sees a significant drop off in the first round of the playoffs. Nothing new folks. |

I can barley afford to take our family of 4 to the games at $16.00 bucks a pop...
We will be at multiple playoff games but just not going to make it in the first round... |

ChazyG, the Cyclone have had some promotional packages for playoff games. You may want to look into those to see if they make things a bit more affordable. |

Really? An extra $12 will kill you? What sporting event doesn't charge more for playoff games? I'm all about saving money believe me. My family of 4 aint cheap. But seeing that these games are already a bargain, seems kind of crazy to complain. |

I'm going to the Wrangler's game tonight and cheapest tickets are $20. We do have a fair price on tickets but always hated the playoff increase. My bet the county is raising the parking also ! Look at Cyclone history and increase in ticket price results in decrease of attendance. Think for good luck the team should be put on a bus and driven around the 275 loop 4 times to make them think we are on the road! |

I heard that the ECHL has the say in increased playoff ticket cost. |

The ticket increase is to cover playoff costs, including player and personnel pay. Seems fair.
Regarding ticket prices, if you want sticker shock, check out the season ticket prices for the Indy Fuel. Ouch! |
