Over on the other social media site there is some bloke from Fort Wayne screaming and yelling that we had NHL and AHL players tonight? I wasn't aware of anyone being sent down from the A. Is that simply a beer induced hallucination? or did I miss someone being sent down....and at this point are we not playing the same players we have from game one of the playoffs?
I'm answering my own question for anyone following, after doing some research the Komet fan was responding to a story in the Fort Wayne paper where it pointed out the the Clones being affiliated to AHL and NHL teams have alot of players sent down to play in the ECHL playoffs. It also pointed out that since the Komets are independant they have to make due with what they have, well that is the breaks. So even though we are thankful that we are loaded for the playoffs, during the season we had alot of call-ups.
The long time family owners of the Komets don't want affiliates because they really don't want to partner with anyone and want to run things 100% the way the want to. That has caused problems in the other leagues they have been in. Easy to see why a fan doesn't understand the rules and how these players were assigned. Every other tesam in the league that is affiliated has such movement but they aren;t familiar with it.
The ECHL website story on the game last night is the link to the FT Wayne paper and includes a nice 4 minute video of the game starting with the penalty call and then the winning goal. Guess we can't ever complain again about the lucky bounce goal in Reading last year!!
Best thing is that there will be hockey next week in Cincinnati--either game six of this series or game 1 of the championship series.
The benefit to Ft. Wayne being independent is that they get to set their lineup and never have to worry about scrambling to replace four guys that get called up mid-season, the downside is that they get no extra help come playoff time from the AHL.
