Personally, I thought the officiating was equally uneven for both sides.

Dayton coach fumes at officials

FAIRBORN — It was a struggle from start to finish, but the Dayton Bombers felt they had more to battle than the Cincinnati Cyclones on Sunday in the ECHL playoffs.

"We were used to a certain standard of officiating in the playoffs, and that wasn't here tonight," Dayton coach Don MacAdam said. "We had two guys dropped with elbows and we get called."

The calls didn't decide the game, but they did shift the Bombers' focus.

"I think we got wrapped up in the officiating and didn't play our game," MacAdam said. "One win doesn't give you a series win. We have a very resilient group, and they'll bounce back."

The Cyclones were called for 12 penalties for 24 minutes, while the Bombers tallied 11 infractions for 22 minutes on the night. Each team took advantage of a pair of power plays as Dayton was 2-of-8 and the Cyclones were 2-of-7.

No surprises

A one-goal game was exactly what Cyclones coach Chuck Weber expected.

"Both teams have a lot of offense, and we knew special teams were going to be huge," Weber said. "It ended up being a one-period hockey game, and that was no surprise."

A 5-4 win on the road, however, is always a pleasant surprise, and Cincinnati has managed to do that throughout the playoffs with a pair in Toledo in the North Division semifinals and Sunday's win in Dayton.

"Any time you get a win in your opponent's building, it's a big win," Weber said. "Now, we have home-ice advantage."

Dayton hosts Game 2 on Wednesday, then the best-of-seven series moves to U.S. Bank Arena for games 3 and 4 Friday and Saturday, and Game 5 on April 30, if necessary. The Bombers will host games 6 and 7 May 2-3, if necessary.

maybe we could bring him some cheese on wednesday.

What you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

I think MacAdams was just watching what he said by his statement, to avoid a fine from the league. Although, I would agree that he is whining a bit.

We've had Nick Suhy as a ref for several of our games this year. For some odd reason, it just seems that he has a bias against The Bombers. Specifically when we play Trenton. I don't think The Bombers won a single game that he officiated this year. I've seen some of the home games he officiated and he called a terrible game everytime. He has no consistancy when he calls games.

His officiating for Sunday's game, I would rate as poor. He missed several calls against both teams. He also made a couple of calls, again, against each team, that I thought were borderline at best. It's as if he calls penaties in waves, against each team. 3 for these guys. 4 for those guys. 3 for these guys again. 2 for those guys, this time. It's just odd the way he officiates games. Usually the refs are the guys that control the game. I don't think Suhy has a clue how to do that.

Again, great game Sunday. This series is going to be a good one.

It's interesting, also, because that's the way the teams played--in waves. First Dayton comes out in a flurry and gets a goal in the first 2 minutes; then we get our 3 in 5 minutes, then Dayton gets 2 at the end of the period, etc. I wonder if his officiating followed the offensive surges of both teams, or vice versa. Or...if the two had nothing to do with each other.
Yep-should be a great series!

i think kymerik said it best.....at this point everyone should be used to crappy officials so why whine about it now.

and how can one say that there is a bias when the cyclones where actually called for 1 more penalty. it was called pretty even if you ask me. it was crappy officiating but it was crappy both ways. suhy has a tendency to completely miss something then call something petty as a make up.

SSSSSSSSSSSSSSUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Jason even corrected him on the call Nick made against him. Ask Elvis..we read Jason's lips. He said, "It was a hold, not a hook."
I don't believe this bias stuff. Nick is just plain PISS POOR! A 22 yr old(if that) from Michigan should know the game better than he does. He's quickly on his way to being the next St. Pierre...How the hell he got to the NHL I haven't a clue.

Hakee, I think the scoring followed the officiating. And yes, it was terrible for both teams.

4Clones, last time I checked he didn't get a fine.

elvis77, we could really see a bias when we played Trenton with him calling the games. Sunday's game was fairly even for both sides. Yes, I'm used to SEEING the crappy officials. I just can't get used to it. Our last game against Trenton was actually called very well.

I guess you can't put to much hope in having a halfway decent ref for a game these days.

Waaaaaaaaaaaa, somebody get MacAdam a pacifier for goodness sakes. First he whines about the series schedule and now he whines about the officials. When he found out Suhy was the ref he should've prepared himself for a poorly officiated game. With that being said, it turned out basically even and I'd even give the Bombers the ref advantage for the game. They had two 5 on 3 advantages, 1 of those became a 6 on 3 because of a late penalty call. The Cyclones only had one 5 on 3 and scored on it, where Dayton only scored on one of their two 5 on 3's. So it seems to me he should be more upset with his team not scoring more goals, especially there in the first period where they pretty much dominated play and only scored once. They had home ice and ref advantage, how much more do you want?

Personally as I've said before this is playoff hockey. There is no need to call every little hook or hold, just let the players play the game. If theres a takedown or something done that haults a scoring chance then there should be a call made, but let the ticky tack stuff go.

GO HABS GO!!!

Exactly. I was very disappointed about their lack of powerplay goals myself. I really hate it when I agree with you.

just fyi, the cyclones are 8-3-1 when Suhy is on the ice (I'm pretty sure those are the numbers Hammer relayed to Chuck who relayed to us)...and we were 1-1 in reg season against Dayton when he was out there...

Actually Dayton was 2/8 on the powerplay. 25% ain't bad by any standard. We were 2/7.
