CINCINNATI, Ohio – The Cincinnati Cyclones, ECHL affiliate of the NHL’s Montreal Canadiens and Nashville Predators, announced today they have added seven players to their training camp roster.
The Montreal Canadiens AHL affiliate, the Hamilton Bulldogs, have assigned goaltender Cedrick Desjardins and forwards Mathieu Aubin and Thomas Beauregard, to Cincinnati. The Bulldogs were the Calder Cup champions last season.
In a related move, the Bulldogs released center David Desharnais, who has agreed to terms with the Cyclones. These four players are expected to be in Cincinnati in time for Saturday’s practice at SportsPlus (11am—10765 Reading Rd., Evendale).
The Nashville Predators AHL affiliate, the Milwaukee Admirals, have assigned goaltender Dov Grumet-Morris, forward James Sixsmith and defenseman Bryan Schmidt to the Cyclones. Milwaukee, which won the Calder Cup in 2003-04, has four consecutive 40-plus win seasons.
Desjardins, 22, won 24 games with the Cyclones last season and had a 2.54 goals against average. He was also the winning goaltender for the American Conference in the Rbk ECHL All-Star Game. Aubin¸ 21, split the season between Hamilton and Cincinnati, appearing in 38 games with the Cyclones and registering 12 goals and 25 assists for 37 points. Beauregard, 21, led the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) with 71 goals and recorded 124 points (71-53-124) in 69 games with Acadia-Bathurst. Desharnais, 21, passed the century mark in scoring (38-70-108) with Chicoutimi (QMJHL).
Grumet-Morris, 25, spent the season between Cincinnati and several American Hockey League (AHL) teams last season. He posted an 11-8-3 record and a 2.77 goals against average in 22 games with the Cyclones. Sixsmith, 23, turned in a 47 point (17-30-47) season in 35 games with Holy Cross (NCAA). Schmidt, 26, spent most of the season in the AHL with Manchester, collecting 18 points (5-13-18) in 58 games and also saw action in six games with Reading (ECHL).
“The training camp roster is pretty much set,” Cincinnati Cyclones Head Coach Chuck Weber said. “We have received quality players from Hamilton and Milwaukee here and have a corps of solid returning guys . There will be some difficult decisions to be made in the days ahead and having talented players here is only going to make that process more difficult.”
