here's a bit of interesting news form the bluejackets website. it will be interesting to see how it plays out during the season, but apparently our rivals to the north have lost their affiliation with columbus/syracuse.....

It's probably not going to have that much of an effect on us either way. The players we would have received this year aren't that outstanding anyway.

at this point it's hard to say wat effect it will have. no affiliate could mean fewer "call ups" which means less player turnover and could lead to better team chemistry. on the other hand it it could mean a less talented team.

affiliations played a big part in both the cyclones and bombers season last year. after leading the division for 90 or so consecutive days, the 'clones lost many key players due to call up, and ended up backing into the playoffs. on the other hand, dayton, which had a solid team to begin with, recieved several very strong player from syracuse late in the season and built a lot of momentum going into the play offs.

i remember the late years for the cyclones in the IHL and the subsequent years in after returning to the echl when the did not hae any affiliations. sometimes they had a solid stable team and played great, other years (especially the last year) it was misery to watch.
