The problem with saying "Dov didn't look like himself" is Dov is a "3-headed
monster" in goal.At times he seems to concentrate and is as good a goalie as
anyone,then the mind slips into neutral and a blind man with a stick can put
it past him.Last year's opener was one of the smoothest games I saw him with
where he never panicked all night.Dov just needs the confidence that a three-man
rush at him won't spook him the rest of the game. |

| Dov didn't look like himself as in, he looked like a completely different, focused goalie. Sure he got away from the net as he usually does, but he looked very collected for the most part. They did a simulated shootout and a few shots were horridly wide but the few that got on him he stoned them. |

My sentiments exactly. I have said multiple times that he has the necessary physical skills and that when he is focused he is tough. On the other hand, when he gets froggy in net, frolics around the ice in a leisurely manner, and generally has brain farts, he drives me bananas. In addition, his low win percentage in shootouts impels me to pray to the hockey gods that when he is in net we don't go to a shootout. Because he is NOT a stupid guy, I would pay good money to know what goes through his mind during his less than stellar nights:
"Did I leave the iron on?"
"Steak or chicken for dinner?"
"Did I call mother last week?"
"Did the puck bunnies see the sweet save I made an hour ago?"
"Now, which side won the Punic Wars?"
"I love the smell of ice in the winter time"
"What was her name, again?"
"Who am I?"
"Are we really here?"
I trust he finds his head (confidence, focus, or whatever) and his consistency this season. When he is on he is a pleasure to watch; and, that consistency will be that much more significant when Ceddy is called up. On the other hand, when Dov discovers his consistency we will certainly lose him to the AHL...Ah, the madness of it all.
Before each game, we will have to burn extra incense and sacrifice a live chicken to the hockey gods. They can be a fickle, demanding, neurotic bunch. |
