With the arena looking at giving us the boot, look at the stats. Info from USA TODAY website shows the Cyclones at 12 of 27 in attendance. The leader is Florida at 6281, we are at 3805 and Baton Rouge is last at 1678. Considering we lost a Friday and Saturday night for a Sunday and Wednesday, thats not too bad. I really think with a big promotion effort and a drop in prices ( how about half price on all seats on Sunday thru Thursday games),our attendance could easily be nearer Florida's figure.

| I know I may get slammed for this, but it looks like this mangement team just doesn't get it. Since last year, the games (not the hockey) have been downright boring. Where are all the promotions announced this year? Where are all the ads for the team? And not to be on radio?? IMHO, maybe the arena has a legitimate beef. Hopefuuly all will work out and the team will be back next year with a renewed effort, but I am reminded that LeFevre had a bad reputation and it looks to me like he is living up to it. Lower your prices or make all seats the same, put on good promotions, make between periods something fun again, and promote the team. then maybe they could be at the top of the league. |

In my opinion, three things happened to the 'clones this season that seemed to steal a lot of the momentum they had coming out of the gate:
1) The Paul Daugherty slam job back in November. Face it, nobody saw this one coming. Despite all the growth the Cyclones have had attendance-wise (and, yes, they have), the perception put forth by the Enquirer creates the illusion that the Cyclones play to an empty house every night. Opening night, Sponge Bob night, and the recent Saturday night Atlantic City game (just to name a few) disprove that illusion.
2) The Cincinnati Swarm. The 'clones were short-staffed as it was. Next thing you know, their ticket reps get shanghaied by the arena to sell tickets for the Swarm. I don't think you can do a lot with so few people.
3) Allen Chapa leaving the organization. Not to slam Allen or Troy Murphy but this transition could've been done a heck of a lot better. Whether it was Allen sticking around until Troy got a handle on things or Troy taking over during the off-season, someone should've seen this change beforehand and done something about it.
So far as ticket prices are concerned, the US Bank Arena is the higher-scale building of the two arenas in this town. They've got more bathrooms, more concessions, comfortable seats, easier access to seats, better scoreboard, etc. Those sorts of amenities come at a price (PLUS, the Cyclones cheapest ticket is $1 cheaper than at the Gardens).
As for intermissions & during game promos, eh, I'm there for the Hockey. Anything else is gravy. The Cyclones could be using their Jumbotron a lot more effectively and they'd probably benefit from adding a "Coca Cola Ice Team" like in Lexington. But short of dressing up & doing the jobs ourselves, I don't think that's going to happen this season.
I think the whole arena thing is going to work itself out and we'll have Cyclones Hockey for years to come. Radio, promotions, presentation, will most likely also fall into place. |

| Gonz you make some good points, but I think the people the Clones need to attract are those who don't come "just for hockey". Cincinnati is a baseball-football-basketball town by nature and hockey is a very distant fourth. People want to be entertained. I remember the days when promotions were almost every game, in between periods were filled with contests (not pee-wee hockey and three shirts tossed into the crowd), Snowbird's various stunts, etc. The "atmosphere" now is we are cheap and we show it. I think ticket prices should be $9 for all seats. Why charge more for center-ice when anyone can just move there for $9? The level of hockey is not going to be noticed by the casual fan, but the low level of entertainment value is. As far as Sponge Bob night goes, getting your picure taken with him is not my idea of a good promotion. Nor is expecting one of owners, Esposito, to skate in a charity game then disappear after the opening faceoff a good promtion. This team must make itself more visible, more fan friendly, more entertaining, etc. in order to survive. I may be wrong, but I just don't see these guys making it happen. The best thing now at the games is listening to you harass the goalie!! |

I need to get some things straight. The owners of the Cyclones have no ties to the arena except to be renters? If this is the case, who is responsible for getting ads on the ice or the boards? Promotions for hockey are created, paid and run by the hockey team with an okay from the ECHL and the arena? The food service is tied only to the arena and the Cyclones get no money from it?The parking garage is strickly Hamilton County with no money to the Clones or the arena? |
