I'd take a decent powerplay instead. Everyone is complaining about no defense, but we had two very long 5 on 3's and didnt score. The defense is fine even playing 3 men short. It's our pitiful PP that costs us the game. The guys were a bit off also. DD missed a wide open net during the 5 on 3 in the 3rd period. 9 times out of 10 he buries that for a goal.
Quick made some HUGE saves for Reading, especially one on Gerard Miller in OT that saved the game. Reading is the best team I've seen the Cyclones play this season. You think missing 3 d-men is bad, Reading is playing 3 players short. They're a team to watch out for the rest of the season. |

You're right that the Power Play was horrible, but that wasn't the sole reason we lost. Our offense is used to scoring 5+ goals every game and out shooting the opponent about 35-15. To see the opposite last night was different. Let's not forget that one of the people on those power plays was Urquhart who simply can't play the point on the PP. He tries one timers which go nowhere and doesn't seem like he can pass from that point. The only forward who has pulled that off was Sam Ftorek.
The defense doesn't get gloralized on the score sheet for bringing the puck out of the defensive zone and setting up all those goals. The lack of Martin, MacDonald, and Gleed showed up last night, pure and simple. Hell, Martin and MacDonald never even left us at all last year.
The way we were dominating the control in the first and last periods (the shots just weren't going in!) I have no doubt that if we had the rightful defense that game would have ended up like most of the games on that 8 game win streak. Cedrick was left to dry on at least two of the goals last night as well, otherwise he played a very solid game.

| I'm gonna agree with the PP being a joke last night. There was one point where we had a 5 on 3 and one of the 3 was without a stick. I said, "If we can't score now, we're done for the night." I also agree that after a 8 game streak, I'll accept one "clunker," but then at the same time, I don't think the guys really worked last night. I know that the Dmen shortage is hurting us, but I don't even think our forwards (who we have a million of) were doing anything spectacular last night. I was actually really disappointed. If they would've put their full effort into the game, I wouldn't be so upset with the loss. I thought it was a pretty pathetic game, there is NO reason we should've even went into OT. But, whatever, it happens I guess. Better win tonight! |

I agree with Cory being worthless working the point. They need to just let Miller and Howells run the point for the full 2 minute PP.
I was telling some friends the same thing you said about the d-men bringing the puck out and making the pass up to the forwards. Reynolds brought it out a few times and passed it ahead but the forward wasnt there to take it because he wasnt familiar with Reynolds getting the puck ahead. A couple passes were short, a couple went too far, so they were a little off in that sense. The familiarization(is that a word) just wasnt there, understandably so. Even with all that the PP still costs us the game. Hopefully tonight we'll be back on track. Reynolds and Irish-Baker just need to keep it simple and make a nice easy pass out of our zone up to the forwards. No cross-ice passes or 80 foot passes. Just get it up to the forwards and let their skill do the work. |

| I think Howells was playing pretty sloppy last night too but its a team effort and the missed passes and bad shots killed us. its almost like they were trying to be fancy and show off with backhand passes and stuff when they should just play hockey. Maybe the big crowd caused that. I dont know..I was happy to see Jason get a goal in his first game back tho. Lets just hope for the win tonight! |
