Something definately needs to happen. I've said it a million times before, but I will say it again... Elmira is out of control. And their rough housing doesn't seem to help their winning chances (at least not lately!) so i think they need to call it quits, and focus on the game.

Anytime you put a ref in the hospital and fracture another players bones on a sucker punch you need to take more action than just the minimum you can give out. This is ridiculous. The ECHL should hand out the maximum punishment or even more to send a message to this and other teams saying that this wont be tolerated

i couldn't agree more....but you have to admit it sounds kind of funny coming from someone whose signature mentions "old time hockey"

well the quote is from a dropkick murphy's song. Respectable hockey with talented players instead of goons just doesnt have the same ring to it ya know. I like a good rough game but not taking it too far like whats going on in Elmira

The Jackal organization itself should be sanctioned. And then re-assigned to the GHL (Goon Hockey League).

LaLonde suffered a fractured orbital bone as a result of a sucker punch from Watson.
Watson gets ONE game and LaLonde gets THREE? I imagine
LaLonde did more fighting, but seven games for punching a ref,one
game for breaking a guy's eye bone-get with it ECHL-you just made
GOON HOCKEY okay for ELMIRA.I hope we keep it straight when we play
them and don't stoop to their level. And more important,I hope the refs
take retaliation for one of theirs being injured by dropping the hammer
swift and hard on Elmira.I also notice Elmira has been shipping people
out like mad.Maybe they're the goon sqadders.

I agree with Heckler thats its not enough... could they make the jackals forfeit a gamer or take points away or something? I think hurting them in the standings would hurt worse than just fines.. and it would help us!

they're hurting themselves in the standings as it is, by getting knocked around every night.

After seeing the clip on youtube i dont think you can actually call it a "cheap shot" both guys were going at it and lalonde wasn't innocent by any means. doesnt give elmira to be the goon squad but as danielle pointed out the league doesnt need to hurt them in the standings they are doing a fine job of that all on their own

I agree that they're killing themselves enough. They were back and forth with us, and now all the sudden there's a 7 points difference. And that's before any of these suspensions even kick in.

It will be interesting to see where they go from here. I'm curious to see if when the boys come back in, they seem to have learned their lesson. I don't think it was enough, but it's a start. They should've started on the "discipline" a long time ago though. It's one thing to have a good fight each night, but another thing to make a complete brawl of a game EVERY NIGHT.

I'll probably get killed on here for saying this, but I like Elmira's style.

If every team played more like Elmira, then the stands wouldn't be so empty in most places. I've seen way too many Cyclones games this season where we haven't thrown even 3 solid checks, let alone fight. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy our games. The casual fans want a little more than pretty goals, though. I don't think we (or many teams) deliver that anymore.

I'll probably change my tune and hate Elmira like everyone else after we play them next!!!

hockey leagues were supposed to be adopting a more euro-style of play with the rule changes years ago. (is it being officiated this way, i don't know?)... so teams should be smart enough now not to stack their teams with a bunch of goon animals who can't skate. it's about showcasing talent. not giving the No-Teeth McGee and Joe E. Knucklehead's ice time to throw haymakers and elbow drop opposing players.

playing physical is a good thing but c'mon??

I am just respectfully wondering if you've seen them play. They do not play just a good, hard-hitting, physical style of hockey---they tends more toward the goonish end of the spectrum.
I have a feeling that most people on this board have no negative feelings about physical, hard checking hockey.
But there comes a point where hard hitting becomes thuggery and becomes destructive to the sport as well as destructive to the team.
