I don't know if anyone here was seated in vicinity of section 114 last night, but there was an interesting near-altercation between a Cyclones fan and an SC fan. In the 3rd period, after SC scored to go up 4-3, an older (I'm guessing he was 55+) SC fan stood up and and started gesturing to the crowd, I guess showing off how important he was because his team had taken the lead. Then, after the Clones tied it at four, and realizing that turnabout is fair play, our group decided to give it right back to him. We were reminding him how his goalie sucked because he twice blew 3rd period leads and began mock-chanting the name on his jersey.
The SC fan got up and was upset. He came up the aisle and challenged the guy (in his mid 20's) sitting right in front of me to a fight. He said stuff like "let's settle this now, you and me outside." When the Clones fan refused his offer, he went to the usher and started giving him an earful. I could over hear the conversation and the SC fan was saying stuff like "He's hurting my feelings" and "he's drunk, give him a breathalyzer." Security got the guy and they briefly talked to both parties and they had to be separated for the rest of the game.
I have never seen confrontation like that up close. Interesting stuff, I must say.. |

| That is why we sit in section 108 now. Last year we had our fill of crap from idiot Toledo fans as well as dayton fans too. Before game one I went over to some South Carolina fans and welcomed them to our arena and town. I invited them to the tail-gate party yesterday and generally was just friendly to them. |
What you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. That's an interesting version of what went on. From my older son's point of view (he was seated in sec 114 right next to all of that), some idiot in a striped blue shirt (an alleged Cyclone fan), ran down after our 3rd goal and got in the face of the Carolina fan. This is the same (alleged) Cyclone fan who had been heartily booing his own team the first two periods, so much that my son wanted to engage him in "discussion" regarding his rather boorish behavior.
The guy from Carolina was pretty upset; both of them perhaps might benefit from some ange-management counselling.
Jeez-playoffs or not, it's just a game, albeit the best, most exciting one in the world! I'm very happy with the attendance figures as of late, but we don't need that kind of crap!

Why are the bandwagon fans such idiots? Root for your team, give the players on ice a little razzing but keep it classy. Respect the game and the guys who play it, and even the fans who drove 12 hours to see them lose (and are no doubt dropping a ton of money in this town for meals and hotel oh, and gas !)
I ended up sitting up by the SC scrached players. After the win my wife jumped up and almost fell down the steps. She was caught by the SC player with the mohawk. She thanked him and he was polite. Classy considering she was wearing a clones jersey and they just imploded in OT. |

For the life of me, I can't recall the fan in question booing the Clones, of course, I was lulled to sleep by the first two periods, so I may not have been conscious at the time..
There's definitely blame to go around though. If you're a visiting fan and you make a show of yourself like that you'd better expect to get it back from the home fans if the tide turns. Wear your team's jersey and cheer them on, but don't taunt the home fans
However, there was no need for the Cyclones fan to get in his face, either. You don't taunt the visitors. Bottom line, go back and forth and have some good-natured jawing with the visiting fans, but it's not worth it to escalate the situation.
Both were at fault. They were both lucky that they didn't do something really stupid and get hauled away by the Cincinnati Police.

Very well said. Home or away each side should cheer their team but there is no reason to get into serious fights with other fans. I was at the game 6 in Reading last round. We cheered and their fans yelled back but ultimately it was all in fun with no serious problems. That is the way it should be when anybody visits the opponent's barn. |

| I just want to let everyone know the guy in the truck was not pushed hard into the truck. He just came out and grab his wife/girlfriend and tried to get her back in the truck. Then the player came off the bus yelling to stop the truck so the police can talk to them. No player touch anyone. He was upset and just wanted thing to cool down and wanted the Cops to handle it. Which they did. If any players wanted to do something they had 4 or 5 just standing there watching it all go down including Rawlyk(that's where my my wife and I was talking to him) but I walk back down to talk to a friend and soon as I turn around the truck stopped and then I see the lady get out so I go back down there to make sure it wasn't my wife getting ready to fight and I see it all go down and the guy was not even touched by a SC player. I just want to make that clear. |

OK folks, I was the lady from SC unwillingly involved in this incident. ClonesFanNKY, some of what you say is correct, but from your description of what you saw, you saw end of the entire thing. Prior to our player's father coming off the bus yelling for them to hold those folks in the truck, there was a much more serious incident. A player was involved, he did push the guy down after the guy would not quit coming towards us. As far as the woman, for whatever reason, she decided she should challenge a hockey player to a "cutting" (at least she threatened to cut him). I looked at her and told her to back off, with my arm across him trying to hold him back (yeah, I know, I realize today that probably wasn't my smartest decision ever, except all I can say is he didn't fight it and while his mouth kept running, he didn't advance any further on her or the guy.) When I told her to back off, I was a good 3-4 feet from her and all she said was "hell no" and moved forward and hit me in the face, knocking my glasses to the pavement. Our player's dad had already pulled him further back and made him get on the bus, so I was on my own for a couple of seconds. I pushed her off with my right arm and put my face in my shoulder so she couldn't hit me there again and in the meantime, our trainer saw what was going down and pulled her off of me and pushed her away. I am not in the habit of getting into physical confrontations with anyone, and I had no intention of continuing this one with her. This is when the dad asked for them to hold the truck because she had hit me for no legitimate reason and he wanted the police to hold her to handle it. The arena security came over after a few minutes and asked if I was OK, apologized for the incident and asked me if I would like to press charges. I told him all I wanted to do was go home to Charleston and he told me he understood. Now, if this had happened on Friday night, she would have spent a few hours in jail because I would most definitely have pressed charges. She was a lucky person last night that I was headed home with the bus.
I have to tell you folks, I have been making lots of road trips for lots of years and was very excited about coming to Cincinnati as it was one of only 2 arenas east of Beaumont that I had not been in. There have been 3 times when I thought my physical safety was in jeopardy, once in Augusta, once in Mobile and Saturday night in Cincinnati (in the other two cities, no one laid hands on anyone). Though, I am very grateful to the many wonderful fans in Cincinnati that came over and spoke to us while we were there, the great Cyclones front office folks that were so very accomodating to us, the tailgate invitation and just the overall hospitality you all extended. I will not let one incident mar that, but it certainly is something I will never forget either. |

| Hey RaysFan34.....welcome to the board. please don't let what happened cause you to think that all Cyclones fans are like that. Usually these incidents are caused by people who don't know how to act at Cyclones games either by drinking too much or just don't care. The Cyclone fan base has more class than a couple of people who just can't handle beer. And judging by what the female in the truck was yelling as they drove off, i would have to say it was alcohol fueled. I know how it is to be in another arena cheering on my team (Toledo was awful). I plan on being there for game five on Saturday (are you the lady who sat at the top of section 114?) provided there is a game five. |

Hey RaysFan- Glad to hear that you are okay.
One thing I can promise you is that we on this board appreciate away teams fans making the trip with their team. I was sorry to hear about this altercation and to be honest, I would have pressed charges...obviously, this was your choice but... the only way to keep that stuff from happening is to make the people that do stupid stuff pay for it.
I'm glad that you are 'relatively' okay, and I hope that in the future you don't allow that one idiot to keep you from coming up any other time that you guys play here again. I went to St. Louis once for an indoor football road game and my wife and infant son were followed and screamed at all the way to the parking lot while I was working in the locker room. It was a very scary experience, I'm sorry that something like this has to happen to anyone.
One thing that I think you will notice if you return to Cincy for another game is that the people on these boards, although huge fans of the Cyclones, and will ride you about how your team sucks and such, it ends when the game is over...and that is exactly what it is, a game.
I believe I speak for everyone when I say SORRY that someone felt like they had to act that way and I hope that you come back with your team again. While Cincinnati isn't a great hockey town, there are some great fans here...it's a shame that you didn't get to meet all of us.

Yes I am that lady. I certainly do not lump all fans in that of what I ran into after the game last night. (I am pretty sure if I told you what I thought of her I would be banned as fast as I got here LOL)
To any Cyclone fans making the trip this weekend, we will be tailgating on Friday just before the game and Saturday afternoon. We are always set up in Parking lot A on the Montague Avenue side, ask any parking lot attendant or Stingrays fan if you have questions (it is right next to the building - you are going to find the parking situation much better here than in Cincinnati) and we welcome all of you to join us.
If the series returns to Cincinnati, I will be returning to cheer on our boys. Will see you then if you can't make it this weekend! |

If I wasn't leaving with the bus, I absolutely would have. We are 2 ladies travelling alone and we always travel with the bus. It is as much for our safety on the highway as it is for knowing where the heck we are going. I was not willing to make a 10 hour drive without the added safety of traveling with the team. I agree with you that the only way to make it stop is to prosecute them. I just wish circumstances would have allowed it.
I will be back Cincinnati ... you can count on it! ;-) |

| I'm sorry you had such a horrible experience here RaysFan34. I have family in Charleston; it's a beautiful city with great people! I'm embarassed by the bad behavior of a few morons. I love the game of hockey all around, and I think the more hockey fans there are out there the better! I just wish people could act like responsible adults and enjoy the game! For all of you Cyclones fans lucky enough to have a chance to go down to Charleston, you're going to have a great time! Thank you Stingrays for a good game, and GO CYCLONES! |
