You'll find more players in the National Hockey League that have USHL on their playing resume than ECHL, and a lot of the one's with ECHL started in the USHL.
The USHL would be more sellable to the media than the ECHL in this town, too. A kid from a USHL team here that signs on the dotted line to play at Ohio State, Miami, Michigan, Bowling Green, Minnesota, St. Cloud State, that would be considered newsworthy. Recruiting efforts would be covered, too. |

I'd like to see an actual reference to numbers of USHL/ECHL players in the NHL. It would be interesting. It's probably close in terms of numbers overall. I'd guess that there are more legitimate NHL high end prospects in the USHL, but the average players is not as good as an average ECHLer.
USHL at the Gardens with the Cyclones playing will draw less than 1000 paid per game. It's an idea doomed to failure. It would have a very low conversion rate of the hockey base. The hockey base in Cincinnati is now served by the Cyclones-with the exception of a few hundred who don't go for various reasons. While a percentage of Cyclone fans (what exactly, who knows?) would go to a Monarchs game, most are solidly aligned with the Cyclones. The Cyclones have won a Championship, are a known quantity and have created a loyalty with their many followers.
The Monarchs (lame name) would be viewed as glorified high school hockey by the majority of people. The attempt to sell the USHL as a path to the NHL wouldn't even be a novelty as the Cyclones already do that.
The Gardens ought to run with the Roller Girls. It's where the facility is in its dotage. Its days of having a tenant in a credible sport are most likely finished. Minor league basketball doesn't work and neither does indoor football or soccer. Unless the Cyclones fold (no reason to think that anymore), then the hockey market is closed unless someone is on an economic suicide mission. The "Monarchs" would be more aptly named the Kamikazes.

Similiar to what Cyclones fans said in 1996-97 when there were rumblings about the Gardens bringing in another team. How did that turn out for the Cyclones with their known quantity and loyal fans? |

Who's going to bankroll the team in the USHL at the Gardens?
Rich Bruner and Ryan Yerrick? |

It would be inappropriate to share information on a message board as to who would own a prospective USHL team at the Gardens.

Similar? Hmmm.
1996-97--Booming economy. 2009-10--Imploding economy
1996-97--Hockey was in a boom as well. 2009-10--Hockey is in contraction.
1996-97--The team coming into the Gardens was a professional league on par/above with the IHL Cyclones. 2009-10--The alleged "team" is a team consisting mainly of high school kids who will be studying accounting or driving fork lifts in 2 years. Selling the USHL to the public as an ECHL equivalent or better will be a daunting task. In reality, it will be impossible.
1996-97--The Mighty Ducks were a marketing dream. They were part of the Disney mega corporation and had an instant name recognition factor and credibility. It really presented a once-in-a-lifetime marketing competitive advantage over an established hockey rival. 2009-10--The Monarchs?? *Jim Mora voice, please* Monarchs? Monarchs? You're talking about the Monarchs??
DH, the comparison of the Ducks to the Monarchs is like comparing apples and orangutans. Doesn't cut it. Try again.

Who said anyone would try and sell the USHL as an ECHL equivalent or better?
Most people wouldn't know the difference between the ECHL and USHL, but more importantly most people just looking for something to do on a Friday or Saturday night couldn't care less. $1 beers would work the same at the Gardens as they do at USBA. |

Not remotely interested in seeing even good 15 year olds playing hockey, you can see that from private catholic schools, Moeller and such. I admit I know very little on the subject so as a simpleton Cyclone fan quite content with the current edition of the Clones I want to offer this. I THINK IT IS PROPOSTERIOUS TO THINK THAT SOMEONE OUT THERE IS ACTUALLY IMPLYING OR PLANNING OF BRINGING ANOTHER TEAM HERE, short of the NHL, NHL maybe, just on the virtue it is a major pro to some folks....but the idea is mind numbing. The current economy, folks racking up thousands of dollars of debt, foreclosing homes, and folks losing jobs and to hear that someone is wanting or thinking about fronting an investment on a minor-er hockey league into a city with a history of not being able to support even 1 team Howabout the person interested in throwing money down a VERY RISKY investment, they send it my way instead. Hopefully the investors are not getting erronious data for someone? implying to the inverstors that this could indeed work. it could work in the event that the investors are not relying on folks buying tickets or ticket plans. We have already agreed to the common hockey fan that league doesn't matter, so if that is indeed the fact why are folks not attending more? I think that the number of folks wanting to go to a non-cyclone hockey team anywhere in Cincinnati is vastly OVER-ESTIMATED, including the Gardens.
Now, if a team can come in here and be self sufficent without needing any fan contribution, then fine, but to bring another team into a city that has problems supporting a 9-4 bengals team against the likes of Detroit, and Kansas City, then why would we figure that we would want to pay to see 15 year olds?......This idea is at the very least idiotic and moronic and the someone needs to be taken out back and beaten at once...
lastly DH, provided you are the same person I think you are. I tried to contact you at your place of employment to inquire about a Cyclones Jersey YOU sold to me, I wanted to know about it's history, It was game worn Kevin Kerr. I was told by a Minon of yours that you no longer care to be a part of the Cincinnati Hockey scene,I was told you were not interested in talking to me about a 1992-1993 or so old hi-sheen Cyclones jersey. I got of the phone somewhat disappointed, I actually wanted to know more about the jersey. however I will offer this up to you...apparently your absence from the Cincy Hockey scene was short lived....your choice, but still short lived, if indeed you are the person i'm thinking |

The game-worn jersey you bought from me was worn by career minor-leaguer Kevin Kerr. It was washed after games by equipment manager Steve Benoit. You are now up to speed with the history of the jersey. |

Really, washed by Steve Benoit? amazing. What I was most interested in is NOT who it was washed by, your response was just stupid. Game pictures from that year showed jerseys without the IHL patches on the shoulders, ditto for the Vavoline patch. Kevin Kerr apparently wasn't that large considering the Jersey was smaller, but I then went to the internet and looked it up for myself. The Jersey had some customizations to the arms, it didn't look like this was game damage and wanted to know if Kevin made changes for a HOCKEY reason that you might have been aware of considering you actually was within the Clone organization.......hey, it was idle hockey chit-chat, I went to the source that sold me the jersey. Hardly controversial discussion or debate that you might or might not have been tired of. Like I said earlier, apparently the hiatus from controversial discussions are over since we are ONCE again debating over the virtues, or lack thereof of different leagues and teams. Again DRAGGING all of us through this meaningless discussion about the Cyclones and whatever team might or might not bubble up through the sewers at the Gard.......oh, why do I bother.
Lastly, I would contend that bringing ANY other team into the city, especially by ANYONE associated remotely with the folks off of Paddock is intended to be malicious, without the cooperation from one another....ticket discounts, merchandise discounts, that would be the only way that I would EVER consider supporting any New team in town. It should have been done in 1997, we wouldn't STILL be debating this....sorry to the Clone faithful for my rant |

And that's really why you folks post right? To get a reaction? Stir crap up? hiding behind the "hockey discussion" mantra. Of course your going to get a reaction from ME, stir crap up, usually meaningless crap all in the name of stiring up crap......really pathetic. Seriously you should listen to yourselves sometimes.
I happen to feel that watching Cyclone hockey is enjoyable, i'm passionate about the team, I happen to feel it's worth while, it's important to me, and I will defend things important to me...thus reaction....you might as well kick my Dog too |
