battle back, hold them scoreless throughout the 2nd,3rd and 4th only to have a breakdown and give one up early in the 5th. Now we have a series, I didn't feel comfortable with a 2 game lead. maybe we can dispose of all this "who is our finals MVP" stuff. felt like bad karma.
Now, I never felt that we were going to sweep, If there was a game to give up, that was the one, maybe Thursdays game had we won tonight.
I'm not certain but did it seem like we lost every faceoff, and I think we allowed the Heads to play their game....hope Chuck gets things under control, if not this thing ends in Idaho, one way or the other and thats no fun! |

correction, apparently they scored in the second....but it still sucks! we'll get them Thursday, seemed like a great crowd...if only we could get folks not to throw stuff onto the ice....what must it be like in their world to think that that's appropriate? |

I thought we had 'em!
The Cyclones started out like they were skating in quicksand. They were bound to throw in a stinker after six straight wins, and to be honest, I wasn't all that surprised. Idaho came out desperate. For all intents and purposes, Tuesday was an elimination game for them. Team don't come back from 0-3 series deficits. Except for twice a week this year.
When the Clones fell to a three goal deficit, I thought it was curtains. At one point the shots were 17-6 Idaho and we'd mustered all of one shot in the first half of the second. Then the boys of destiny came to life in a big way. The puck movement and skating was so one-sided that it just seemed that there was no way we could lose.
Despite the 16-5 shot advantage in OT #1 and a completely gassed Idaho squad, the final nail couldn't be put into the Steelhead's coffin. I guess any notion of an easy series with this year's squad is a bit much to ask for! Still, it was a great game and most people were standing up for the majority of the 3rd period and the OT.
The one good thing about the loss is that the Cyclones will now enjoy what should be a phenominal revenue date on Friday.

No worries. As others have said Idaho came out desperate and hung two one us in the first and one in the second. Our boys battled back and tied it up, sent it to overtime where we did everything but put the puck into the net. A simple defensive breakdown at the beginning of the second OT allowed them to win the game.
The Steelheads are a good team. They're not just going to roll over and die for us. That being said they have to be scratching their heads wondering how to beat us regularly and not having to rely on us screwing up for their chances.

I too felt the Clones were off thier game , but look at how they have had to burn the candle at both ends for such a long time now. Our boys have played more than double the games of Idaho . Hopefully a good rest and they will be back to thier normal game. No one promised them that the steelheads would just let them have the Cup . I do feel it is thiers for the taking, but they must respond from this and take it, i just hope it is at home. |

Looking at game summary and was struck by the trends seen in shots on goal through the first overtime: Idaho 13-7-8-5, Cyclones: 5-7-10-16. Think that aptly describes the game. Then comes the ugly number from the 2nd OT: 1-0. Game Four is always the key game and will be in this series. 3-1 which is hard to overcome or 2-2 which gives back home ice advantage to Idaho.
Now for the ever present question: Mayer or Smith? |

I'm bummed with the loss, but I really believe we had no business being in the overtime to begin with. Idaho had a goal disallowed which should have been counted and we had a goal that play should have been stopped. That being said, the team again slept-walked through the first 1 1/2 periods and then turned it on in the end. Their game winning shot is what we all keep yelling at our players on the power play- SHOOT THE D@# PUCK !!! We finally caught up in shots with alot being multiple rebounds right back into the goalies body. The best line last night was Robinson,Ortiz and Benson. With a little more scoring ability, they could have had three or four goals. I hope Ortiz lands an ECHL contract with us next year. His hustle is great on the ice. |

What a game! Felt like maybe we let a few chances slip away but really they outplayed us for most of the game. I think that maybe since they Cyclones had the 2-0 series lead they felt like going home the series was over and Idaho was just gonna lay down and give up. Obviously Idaho came out very aggressive and we didn't. Very disappointing to see that lack of urgency from the Cyclones. That being said, I think we are still in very good shape to win this series. We have to win Game 4 though- if Idaho steals 2 from us at US Bank Arena all of a sudden they have momentum and ice home back. Game 4 of this series is the most important game of the season right now |

as far as the question about who should be in goal I think it should be Smith and I assume thats what Chuck will do in Game 4 although either 1 is a very good option |

Definitely not the best game the Cyclones played. No connection or rhyme or reason to their playing lastnight until the end. We need to come out fighting from Period 1 and stick with that on Thurs. Also glad to see someone finally get caught for throwing the pieces of chair onto the ice. Really people, this is ridiculous! Grow Up!!!!! |

For some reason it seems to always hold true in hockey that when the game is tied late or in OT, and one team is pounding the other BUT NOT SCORING, the team doing the pounding always loses.
The first OT was a shooting gallery for the 'clones with Beauchemin fighting for his life and the Steelhead skaters lost and helpless. But we couldn't get anything to go. Thats when I looked at my wife and said "Dammit, we're going to lose this game." She said. "Yep."
Now its a series, and as noted before lets please stop talking about sweeps and MVPs and stuff. Thats seriously bad kharma.
On another note, #7 must have had nightmares about Eggo last night. Did anyone else see Barret just skate (literal) circles around him in the offensive right corner late in the game? Reminded me of the old Theo Fluery commercial with the insane goalie. "HE'S ONLY FIVE FOOT SIX!!!!"

Despite the loss, that was still one of the most exciting hockey games I've ever seen. With the new job and everything I hadn't been to a game in awhile, it was good to come back and see an exciting match. Wish it would've ended better for us though.
I can't remember who delivered that hit in the first period, but that Idaho player didn't get up for quite awhile. It was fierce. |

Despite the outcome it proved to be a spectacular game. I don't know who put lead in 'Clones' skates last night but they just weren't moving the first half of the game. I think a couple of really good shifts by Eghotz is what finally got the team rolling. I agree with the person that said we were lucky because of the disallowed goal. But by the same token, Eghotz whould have been aswarded a penalty shot in the first OT. That was more than just a trip and playoff OT or not, a penalty has to be called.
Regardless, it was a really fun game. First game I can remember where the crowd remained standing for an entire period, the first OT. Time to shake off the loss and charge ahead. Wish I could go thursday. If the stars align I may make Friday. Either way, bring home the cup boys. |

I agree with Catch22, watching us buzzing their net but not being able to get anything to go, gave me a very ominous feeling going into the second OT. You just knew one lucky bounce was going to happen for them and they would convert.
On the goalies, I think you start Mayer again, with a short leash. He's been stellar since that ugly first period in the Conference Finals, and I think he'll have something to prove in game four. |
