| If Fort Wayne joins the CHL, you'll see Indianapolis rejoin the league in the foreseeable future. |

Quad City's rumored announcement. The end of the article quotes an "offical announcement expected next week." |
What you do today can change the course of your life far into the future. Today is critical. Today really counts. |

Maybe someone who really understands the legal and organizational issues can help me with this. There are two issues that would seem to me to be key to determining whether an IHL team want s to join the ECHL or the CHL: affiliations and roster issues:
1)The ECHL teams now all seem to have NHL/AHL affiliations with all the rules around contract issues, etc etc. I don't think the IHL/CHL has any such affiliations. They are both true independent leagues. If one of them joined the ECHL would they need to get an affiliation? Is it a requirement of the ECHL to have such a relationship. If so, would someone like the FW owners want to give up a certain amount of control?
2) The ECHL also has rules as to what the roster can look like in terms of numbers of players with two way contracts, number of prior minor leagues games allowed for a certain number of players, payroll restrictions etc etc. Nor sure owners of current IHL teams would want such restrictions and, even if they did, would their current rosters be allowed in the ECHL or would they have to make changes etc.
In total it just seems easier for the IHL teams to merge into the CHL where both leagues are independent rather than join the ECHL where there seem to be more restrictions and control or influence by affiliates.
The northern division now has seven teams, the western Conference 8 teams in two divisions, and the Southern Division only 4. Would seem the ECHL should concentrate on building up their presence in the South rather then looking for new teams in the Midwest or at least get a team back east where you would have three American Conference divisions with four teams each (Cinn, Toledo, KZoo and Wheeling), ( Reading, Trenton, Elmira, new team), (Florida, Greenville, SC, Gwinnett) and the current two four team divisions in the National Conference.

Lots of info in the last few days In The Fort Wayne Gazette. They keep going back and forth as to IHL, ECHL, CHL although they say that ECHL Commissioner McKenna says there are no discussions on going at all with the IHL or any of its teams. As an example of the issues I asked about in the last post, here is a quote from one of the articles in the Gazette:
"The CHL is unionized, however, and the Komets have not had to deal with the Professional Hockey Players Association since leaving the old IHL in 1999. While the IHL was slated to skate a 70-game schedule next season, the CHL plays a 64-game slate. The IHLs salary cap is $13,000 a week, compared with $10,450 a week for the CHL."

| ECHL salary is 11,800 - if the teams are looking to be able to spend the most on players. |

What you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

| It looks like the only CHL/IHL team with an AHL and NHL affiliate is the Odessa Jackalopes. I don't know the ins and outs of franchise ownership but it seems like it would make more sense for them to be in the ECHL. If the ECHL could pick up a team like that, Reno starts to play, and they start up teams in San Diego and Fresno (cities on their wish list) they could start a 3rd division in the West. |

| Definitely bad for Ft. Wayne. It looks like a few of the IHL teams may not play next year which would leave them with fewer teams to play and the Komets have a long history and they love their team up there. |
