So does anyone want to take a guess who it is? Someone from the organization's past or someone who's hungry and new like Chuck was?

Norfolk of the AHL just hired a guy named Jon Cooper to be their coach. He is making the jump directly from the USHL to the AHL. He's got a very interesting background-much like Weber. Cooper actually practiced law before getting serious about coaching.

The point of bringing this guy up is that there are many mostly unknown coaches at lower levels who are very capable. Ray Harris was able to land a gem in Weber and there isn't any reason to believe that he will change his thinking and get some washed up player who really doesn't bring much to the table to be his coach.

Now that I've posted this, the new coach will probably be Chris Cichocki

His teams in Bloomington were under severe budget constraints from what I have read.

His team last season was pretty physical.

Skalde played on the 2000-01 Orlando Solar Bears. A guy named Chuck Weber was an assistant coach (video coordinator) on that squad.

Given that Rochester and the Cyclones are affiliated, it makes perfect sense that Weber may have had a great deal of influence upon the new hire.

It looks like you've called it right, Woodrow. Good job.

Looks like Wheeling is going to be pretty decent this year. Drulia is bringing his best Port Huron players with him.

Drulia was Weber's boss for two years in Augusta. Maybe Stan can work for Chuck some day

It should be ME, based on my simleague success!!!!

I currently lead the league in Goals, +/-, Powerplay goals, Penalty kill, and Penalty Minutes.
If the team really existed I'd buy season tickets!

:)

Yes, I grew up playing hockey... In Alabama.

I thought they'd be really good last season too. We saw how that worked out. If Drulia can make the AHL boys play hard, they should be just fine. I do like that he's bringing in his best players from Port Huron, and not taking the "drinking buddy" philosophy of Puhalski.

I'm really excited to see Mikael Bedard, mainly because of his +34 as a rookie last season. Wheeling tends to lead the league in forwards who are defensive liabilities.

I am sure there is a group of returning players who will sign shortly after the coach is named. My concern is that the other teams have signed several players each and some of them who might have signed with us had we a coach, have gone elsewhere. We will never know but the list of good unsigned players is certainly less than it was a few weeks ago

Hey Don, that is an interesting possibility. Wonder who it'll be? Guess we'll just have to wait 14 more hours to find out.

Hockey is life. All the rest is just small stuff.
