| Just got back from US Bank Arena. I bought 11 tickets for opening night. The guy at the ticket window said there are no tickets available in the middle sections. Should be a pretty decent opening night crowd! Anyone else starting to get really pumped?? |

I just REALLY hope they get the banner raising ceremony "right" this time. The last one took WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY too long and by the time the puck was dropped the energy was gone from the building.
Fingers crossed... Pump the crowd, raise the banner, drop the puck. Done.

Agreed... That took forever and did take away from the energy level. I heard they did it that way on purpose to "build suspense". Blah... All it did was make everyone tired of clapping and listening to Wildman say, "Come on, you can do better than that! This is the Kelly Cup!" But yeah, we were "cheering" for 20 minutes straight. There are less banners to raise this year and there are more returning guys to appreciate it, so that's a plus.
Can't wait! |

The Cyclones opening night crowds have been:
2006-07 4358 2007-08 2407 2008-09 5183 2009-10 5086
It would be nice to see tonight's turnout be the best of the five years.
Speaking of which.....The fact that the Cyclones are entering their 5th season AND there is no reason to worry about their future is a flippin' miracle.
The resurgence of this team at the box office is worthy of being a Harvard Business School case study in marketing. The Cyclones management team and staff has done a miraculous job in reviving a team that was 'dead in the water' in a hockey market which had been mismanaged for over a decade. Cheers to you all!! |

Yeah, winning championships is HUGE when marketing a sports team.
There are a few markets that will sell out every game regardless of how well the team is doing (the Packers for example) but those are few and far between. For the most part, winning gets people through the gates.
We saw the same thing with the Thrashers in Atlanta. For the first couple of years attendance was good because they were new and highly marketed. The things started to drop off because they were losers. Then it spiked for a couple of seasons as they were playoff contenders with Hossa and Kovy in the lineup then it went to crap again.
Not exactly rocket science. People love a winner.
I'll betcha a 6 pack of your favorite beer that if the Cyclones start to lose this year, and aren't in contention for a playoff spot, the attendance will go down ALOT.

Winning and minor league attendance aren't highly correlated in many cases.
Look at the Dayton Dragons (A level baseball). They lost over 20 straight games this year and will still probably sell out every game next season.
The Cyclones were winning in 2007-08-the team only lost 12 games in regulation during the entire season-and weren't drawing flies. The management recognized that there were major pricing and promotional issues and made dramatic changes in both of these areas.
I'm not saying winning doesn't it matter. It just doesn't seem to matter too much when it comes to minor league attendance in many cases. Just ask Costa Papista (the former Dayton Bomber owner) what winning (KC finals in 2007) did for attendance the following year. The answer: Nothing. |

Altho we lost the game here is what I thought of the intro tonight.
The regular intro is awesome. Perfect song, footage, and the stuff they did with Barret skating is great. Love how the video is now on the ice and the red glow of the ice.
However... the banner raising was kinda lame. The song with the video they played was boring which made the whole crowd bored along with the banners going up too slowly like before.
ECHL says attendance was 6160 tonight. AND WHAT THE HELL... switching from Pepsi to RC COLA?! I mean, do you really purposely want people not to buy pop now? I'll be sneaking in Mountain Dew for the rest of the season.

| Hahaha, I think I was the only one in the building actually excited about RC Cola. I love it! It's the ECHL of soda. |

I can't believe they botched up a banner raising again. They did the same stuff wrong again. NO energy in the building by the time they got done. No excuse for the same mistake twice.
And those sweaters were horrendous. I blame the loss tonight on them. Thank god that was a one game deal and they got auctioned.

Who told you you can bring in one sealed water ? With the prices hiked on almost all the food, I'm honestly considering dropping my season tickest next year due to the cost of food. My wife and I do not plan to sit an entire game without eating or drinking (and usually it is pop or water) and 3 games in 5 nights like now is a big chunk of entertainment dollars. Without season tickets, one of the two games (Tuesday or Wedneday) would probably be skipped. The worst part is the team is not making the profits (other than their contract) from these overinflated prices. |

ACCEPTABLE ITEMS - Factory Sealed Bottled Water (1 per guest)
This is from The Cyclones website under Game Night FAQ. With the switch to RC cola I will be bringing in 1 sealed water and some flavor packets (grape and cherry) and then refilling it at water fountains. And since I get home from work earlier than my wife, I will cook some hot dogs or burgers and we will eat them on the way to the game. |
What you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

Rumor has it that Chuck is looking into call up RC Cola to Rochester. Kroger is currently in negotiations with USBA to sign Big K in it's place.
What's up with the RC? Really? |

I side with the group here on most things. Not worried too much about offense, but unless the defense and goal tending get better quickly, we will be in a hole we cannot climb out of.
Here is my take on my experience last night. -- I can live with the ECHL cola, but the $7 beer is going to be ummm... hard to swallow. -- City BBQ - Fantastic!! The sandwiches are huge! -- I enjoy seeing old friends at the game - Wildman, season ticket holders in our section, the vendors and ushers. -- Would love to see Megan Mongillo back instead that girl last night. Still, its refreshing to not have that 'LET'S MAKE SOME NOISE!!' guy yelling all the time.
And finally, I have a question about something I don't understand. Whenever a Cyclone gets sent to the penalty box, some guys in section 130 always yell "Two minutes of shut the hell up!" Whats that all about? |
