According to OurSportsCentral, there is a new arena in Rogers, Arkansas. It says they plan on aquiring an existing team, but wont announce who it is yet.

I hope it is the currently dormant San Diego Gulls, and not our beloved Cyclones. Why would they go to all the trouble of coming back if they would just turn around and move? Dont know anything, of course, but I just got a little panicky.
Anyone heard this? |

| I have not heard that one. However, I understand that there has been a significant amount of money has been budgeted in an effort to get the team going this year, about $1.8 million. The team and the arena have a long term goal in mind. They knew this year would be a struggle but they are hoping to expand the fan base. Remember, there was no team until late April. I have heard that the team plans to play in the ECHL again next year with a goal of moving to the AHL in 2 years. The thought is that will help draw back many of the fans who quit attending due to playing in a lower league. Right now I feel fairly confident that this is not a one and done situation. Yeah, the attendance doesn't look good now but I think this was already accounted for in the original plan. In any event, I am just happy to have hockey right now. I'll worry about next year when the season is over. |

Just thought I would let everyone know that Cyclones ticket reps have told us that they will be offering season ticket renewals next month.  |

Thanks Cyclonehole for that good news.You can count me in for two more season tickets.
The words that I have heard from Cyclone personal is there will be hockey next year,
likely ECHL,small chance AHL.I think only a long term commitment from an AHL team would
lead to a switch.I am just concerned about ECHL CYCLONE HOCKEY. |

Well, that does my heart good, especially while the Greenville Growl also went inactive. But I got a half season, not sure how many games I could attend. I plan on upgrading to full season, because I have only missed three games and have purchased tickets to several that were not in my ticket package.
I just want hockey! ECHL Cyclones are great, and AHL would be fine, but I just need my hockey. My only apprehension for the AHL is the seemingly erratic league leadership I saw during the Duck debacle. It was as if the AHL didnt care about their franchises, but then I am sure the behind-the-scenes dealings would make sense of it. At least with the ECHL, if the parent club pulls an "Anaheim", your team can exist. |

Greensboro, NC is on tap for an ECHL team next year as well. They are buying an existing franchise. That is for the 2007-2008 season. The item about Rogers says it will open in September of 2008.
raptorov... I'm going to have to disagree with you somewhat on the 'seemingly erratic leadership' from the AHL. There was no way David Andrews would have forced the new Anaheim ownership to stay in Cincinnati. From the reports I heard, he was actually fairly helpful in wooing potential NHL affiliates to choose Cincinnati. In the game of Affiliate-Musical-Chairs, Cincinnati just happened to be the last team left standing when the music stopped, and a couple of NHL teams weren't going to go with a single affiliate. I don't blame the AHL leadership at all for Cincinnati not presently having an AHL team.
Besides, if I understood everything correctly, Gardens Hockey Inc only sold their *franchise* to the group in Windsor. Gardens Hockey Inc still holds the rights to an AHL franchise in the Cincinnati area, for the time being. So, unless those rights are negotiated away from them, any attempt to bring AHL hockey back to Cincinnati would have to involve them.

i could be wrong on this but i was under the impression that when the Robinsons lost their AHL franchise, they also lost their rights. when they couldn't make the railraiders go, they went back to the bottom of the list so to speak. so if the AHL wanted to put a team in cincinnati, the cyclones or gardens hockey inc. would be options and the AHL would choose the most viable option. |

When the Robinsons sold their franchise (which they chose to do, they didn't technically "lose" it), they sold a franchise. The rights to an AHL team in the Cincinnati area would not have been sold with the franchise, because nobody in Windsor, Ontario, Canada, would want them. I do not know how much longer those rights last, nor if they are subject to being renegotiated with the AHL once they expire.
Whether the AHL wants to put a team in Cincinnati or not is really immaterial. Someone who owns an AHL franchise has to want to put it in Cincinnati. The AHL might have an opinion as to where they would prefer that a team play, but ultimately it would be up to the franchise owner to negotiate his own deal for an arena. Obviously, if Nederlander bought an AHL franchise, he'd put it in USBA. If someone else came to town with an AHL franchise, they'd probably end up at the Gardens unless Nederlander would be willing to be landlord for a hockey team he doesn't own. |

By "somewhat erratic leadership", I meant the apparent attitude of well-you-lost-your-affiliate-through-no-fault-of-your-own-sorry-about-your-luck, rather than an attempt to keep what was a viable market in the league. What soured me on AHL, I guess, is how after the deadline to get a new affiliate passed, and Cinci was declared out, then Edmonton folded their team and Utah folded theirs, freeing two affiliates. It seemed that the AHL could have shuffled NHL partners to keep willing teams in. But as I said, I have no idea about the back-room story where, I am sure, the answers lie.
But that is a long time ago, and the Cyclones are back.
When I heard the news, a got out all my old Cyclone merchandise and displayed it everywhere!

| I guess I'll add my two cents too. I heard that U.S. Bank Arena is committed to keeping the clones here for three years. They knew the attendance was going to be bad this year. They said they plan on marketing the crap out of the team next year. I also heard they are putting in brand new glass. Why they would do that if they were not coming back next year is beyond me. I don't pay attention to what is said on that "other board" because they just want to see the clones fail. If we do get a Ahl team at Usba it would be interesting to see if those people would support it since it's not at the Gardens. If Neaderlander does a good job of marketing next year I'm sure the attendance will be a lot better. |

That's certainly good news. If there was no plan to continue playing next year, the team would have been gutted of all talent by now just like the last ECHL team was. Everything I have heard is positive regarding next season. There is too much effort being put in to the team to just get rid of it. Like I said earlier, I am feeling very confident that there is a strong commitment from ownership to make this a multi-year operation. As soon as season ticket info comes out, I am renewing. Long live the Clones!! |

| does anybody know if they are offering season tickets for next year? my family and i are not season ticket holders but would like to be for next year. we would have gotten them for this year but most of our cash was tied up on a long, extended, well deserved vacation. we have been to the majority of their home games as well as a road trip to dayton. |
