Watching the NY Rangers vs. Philadelphia Flyers alumni game on Versus. Former WHA Stingers (and Hall of Famers) Mark Messier and Mike Gartner are skating with the Rangers contingent. Boy, does seeing these guys I watched play in the 70's -- some in person and some on NBC -- rekindle the memories.
Messier, Gartner, Ken Linesman (saw him play in the WHA when he was with the Birmingham Bulls) can still skate.
Kevin Weekes, who dressed as a backup goalie for the IHL Cyclones during the 1994-95 season as a 19-year-old, is serving as the color analyst for the game. Kevin was a member of the Carolina Monarchs in 1996-97 when I was involved with that organization and it's no surprise to see how well he's doing in his post-playing career.
Great crowd in Philadelphia for the game (40,000). |
