KALAMAZOO, Michigan – Trent Daavettila had a pair of goals, the second of which turned out the be the game-winner, as the Kalamazoo Wings (28-16-2-3) snuck past the Cincinnati Cyclones (22-17-1-6) by a 4-3 final score in front of 2,755 at Wings Stadium on Tuesday night.
The Wings only needed seven seconds to jump out 1-0 as Eric Kattelus sent a low wrist shot past Cyclones goaltender Brian Foster (L, 27 saves, 8-2-0-1) and into the net. However, the Cyclones answered back with goals from Joe Devin and Rob Slaney at 10:42 and 15:16 respectively, giving Cincinnati a 2-1 lead at the first intermission.
The Wings rattled off a pair of second period tallies to take a temporary 3-2 lead; At 12:09, Darren Archibald beat Foster with a wrist shot from the left circle followed by a Trent Daavettila tip-in at 13:22. The Cyclones once again pulled even at 14:31 when Mathieu Aubin deflected a Maury Edwards’ point shot past Kalamazoo net minder Riley Gill (W, 27 saves, 19-9-1-3), knotting things at 3-3 through 40 minutes.
Early in the third, a Cyclones turnover proved to be costly as Darryl Bootland took the puck and fed Daavettila in the slot and deposited the go-ahead strike at 3:35. The Cyclones had a pair of chances to tie it with the power play later in the frame, but camp up empty as the Wings held on for a 4-3 win.
The Cyclones Radio Network Three Stars of the Game are as follows:
First Star: Trent Daavettila (2 goals, game-winning goal for Kalamazoo) Second Star: Eric Kattelus (1 goal for Kalamazoo) Third Star: Darren Archibald (1 goal for Kalamazoo) |
...And on the eighth day, GOD created the Cyclones! |

| Have never seen anything like this. This makes nine straight one goal games 14 out of the last 16. We are 8-5-3 in those games and split the two non one goal games each decided by three goals. Not even an empty net goal to make the margin 2. Use to see a good number of one goal games when they could trap in the center zone but since then not nearly as much. My biggest concern is we have won 4 of these last nine one goal games in a row--two coming from three goals down in the third period and the other two scoring in the last minute to force overtime that we won. Can't rely on those scenarios in the long run. Hope we finally have a much more comfortable win Thursday night |

| You're right. That's not a good situation for a team that has difficulty holding a lead and is not necessarily offensively explosive. As for last night, the Cyclones can't seem to win in that building. And they need to be aware of Toledo now. The Walleye seem to have their number and the Cyclones can't seem to solve Richards in net, who is quite solid. They need to cash in on these games in hand or else the Cyclones will find themselves on the outside looking in. |

| It's obviously Chet's fualt and not possibly the lack of defense. I mean Foster was in net. |
