| Bags brings up an interesting idea, if travel costs weren't an issue and every team could have at least a home and home with each other, why not just take the top 16 teams regardless of the conference. |

I know it looks bad if an Elmira would have to play an Alaska team, but a best of five first round going 2-3 means only one road trip for both teams. The flight cost for one round trip compared to a 2-2-1 series between Elmira and Florida involving two possible flights if it goes 5 is probably the same. Could you imagine the fun of Alaska coming to Elmira for two games then BOTH teams return together on the same flight to Alaska ! We would have to put the refs on the same flight to maintain order. But serious, this would give our better 9th place team a playoff berth while keeping one of their bottom dwellers from a playoff reward they didn't earn. |

If travel costs weren't an issue, then each team would fly by chartered plane to most regular season road games. |
