Without question the worst hockey experience of my life. Between a completely flat team on the ice, the drunk idiot ignoring his young kids acting awfully on the row in front me, and a crowd where the majority of the people in the building were more concerned with byramids than the game... I'm totally done with $1 beer nights. It's always sucked, but now it's just ridiculous.
OK, it puts butts in seats and helps keep a team in town, but my butt won't be one of them ever again.
As a friend of mine once sarcastically said... "Ya'll have fun with that."

| $1 beer put almost 4000 people into the building on a weeknight. it's not going away. looks like a good business move to me. |

| You want some cheese with that whine? Even if the upper bowl seats were covered that still leaves 3,000 empty seats. If you don't like your neighbors move somewhere else. They have just as much of a right to be there as you do, so get off your high horse. |

My only complaint with $1 beer night is the lack of effort to collect the "empties" during the game. Why can't someone go through between periods and collect the cans. With less empties lying around, the temptation to throw them down to the beeramid builders is reduced. By the way, you can get 24 packs of soft drinks for $9 or less. How about $1 12 ounce cans of "family friendly" drinks and still make money. |

| As much as I'm not a fan of the byramids, they entertain the fans and make them want to come back again. As long as the byramids allow people to have fun, keeps bringing people in the door, keeps my ticket prices at $10 a game, and keeps hockey in Cincinnati, then I'm okay with a few drunk people having fun. |

Read my post again. I REALIZE it puts butts in seats, but very few of those butts seem to actually care about the game.
We moved seats, from a place where college kids were slinging not quite empty beer cans at each other to a place where a drunk idiot was ignoring his brat kids and double fisting cheap beer (I can only assume he was the one who drove home, since I doubt the 8 and 10 year old are licensed).
I'm not saying the promotion should go away. I'm saying that this HOCKEY FAN is going to skip the nights where the building is full of drunk people, beer can throwers, and byramids.
And you know what... Screw some of you guys. I didn't buy a ticket to look at the back of a drunk dude's head and a stack of cans for 2.5 hours, and I have just as much a right for the ticket I bought to afford me a clear view of the HOCKEY GAME as he does to be a drunk jackass.
If management wants to keep letting some of this crap go unchallenged, they will eventually start losing actual Cyclones fans. You can have dollar beer night without all of the silly crap.

I'm with Catch on this one. I had a group of drunks with kids behind me. As the game (as bad as it was) wore on the more obnoxious they became. It was painfully obvious by their yells and calls they might have caught a CBJ game once on FSO.
No problem, I just moved. While I shouldn't have to, its easier in the long run.
I don't sit in my assigned seats when I bring my kids either. I'll be on the other side of the arena from the guys saying:" You suck" and "See YA, A$$hole!" instead of right behind them. Why tell them to shut up when I can simply move? My kids shouldn't have to listen to it and I shouldn't have to put up with drunks.
My usher (Tom) is VERY good about finding me a new seat when the drunks are out or i'm with my kids. He knows whats going on and should be recognized for his customer service. Should the day come when every seat is filled, well i'll figure out then. |

Good news is there are only three cheap beer nights left this season. Most of the remaining schedule are weekend games.
I dont really enjoy going to weeknight games anymore either. I realize that promotions are necessary to get people to come to games, but I dont think they need a $1 beer nights every weeknight game. They could do $1 pizza, soda, etc sometimes too. The crowds at the Wednesday/Thursday night games usually suck (frat boys and girls, drunken cincinnati/nky white trash hillbillies).

Catch22 brings up an interesting topic, parents who ignore their kids, letting them run amock, standing and making trips up and down the rows and aisles during play are awful. They've got to do something about it, like get rid of the Kids Eat Free Nights. I can't stand them; kids all around kicking the back of my seat, not paying attention to the game. And the parents, they're just as clueless and behave more of less like their children (which behave a lot like the drunks on cheap beer nights. Ironic right?).
And don't even get me started on bobble head nights. Take Obama bobble head night. I was surrounded by people, who didn't show up until 5 minutes into the 1st period and then proceeded to bitch about not getting such a collectable item. They could care less about the game. They left at the end of the 1st.
I guess the lesson here is the marketing department should only market to the real hockey fans, people who know the game and pay attention to it. That's right, all 900 of us. Screw having a financially viable hockey team in Cincinnati. |

The promotions are necessary because there really does seem to be about 2000 actual hockey fans in Cincinnati, and if we want a team we have to deal with it.
BUT...
I think the $1 beer has gotten out of hand in terms of the double fisted drinkers getting completely wasted and people blocking the view of the ice with byramids. And it's not just the byramids blocking the view, it's the people standing up building them THE ENTIRE GAME and the people up walking around collecting cans. It really has gotten ridiculous, and management needs to start getting it reeled in.
My suggestion... Only one beer per person at a time and byramids only between periods. And yes, someone needs to actively get all the roaming around while the puck is in play under control before somebody gets hurt.
If a few little rules cause some people to not come, I promise you those people were 80% of the problem and shouldn't be there anyway.

| May I make a suggestion to all of you who are full season ticket holders? Complain about this issue tomorrow (2/13) at the dinner you're having with Useless. Maybe by luck KP and/or Ray Harris will be there too. |

I've been a STH for a number of years and quite enjoy the beer specials. In all the years they've had these specials, I've never had a problem. Indeed, there are some overserved fans, but they seem to be in the minority.
For one thing, these specials help mitigate the otherwise major league concession prices during minor league games.
I empathize with those who are annoyed by boorish behavior, but we have to keep in mind that this is low level minor league hockey, thus, some lowbrow behavior is to be expected. If this makes you uncomfortable, you probably shouldn't visit arenas in some other cities where things get far more crass and out of hand. Maybe you can suggest an alcohol free zone to help eliminate the annoyance.
Additionally, over the summer, the Cylcone held an online fan poll asking about what everyone's favorite promotion is. The winner: beer specials, followed by bobbleheads. So, it may be a reality that's here to stay.
I'll take two, please. |

| Reggie describes it perfectly. I dont always get beers on the special nights, but when I do ill take 2 at a time, and probably just those 2 or maybe 2 more. My seats are in row F, so I can see all the idiots not paying attention to the game doing the beeramyds, but you dont have to pay attention. Plenty of open seats to move elsewhere - esp on weekdays - if you dont wanna be around it. Yes its a hassle and it shouldnt be needed - but its minor league family fun. It is what it is - and ill gladly deal with some drunk idiots every now and then over no hockey to go to at all. |
