We are just going to have to disagree. I don't buy hockey tickets to look at a stack of cans between me and the game, and by rule those people aren't supposed to be up and walking around can hunting when the puck is in play anyway. Finally, it is not MY responsibility to get up and move from the seat I paid for because someone is blocking the view of the game. That's just silly. And yes, we did this at this game and moved from one problem area to a different problem area.
Beer Free Zone? I wouldn't sit there. I like beer alot.

For the majority of those attending a Cyclones game, it's simply a night of entertainment. That's what Cyclones hockey has been, is now, and will always be.
With minor pro sports in most towns being nothing more than an entertainment option, the Cyclones have done a good job since the team returned to the ice in 2006-07 with its marketing and promtional efforts to get people into the arena.
At the same time, I can understand Catch22's frustration. He's there to watch hockey and his enjoyment of the game is hindered by what's going on around him.

Just for clarity, there is a difference between being annoyed or enjoyment being hindered and simply not being able to see the ice because someone has built a 5 foot tall stack of empty beer cans between me and the game. Add a half dozen people roaming around gathering cans and other people throwing cans from 10 rows up and things have gotten ridiculous.
You can let people have fun without letting them ruin the game for the people actually trying to watch it. As I noted, let them build byramids between periods. Hell, have byramid building contests between periods. I don't really care. But cut that crap out when the game is being played.

| the unfortunate thing is, if the arena is going to allow what you are seeing to happen near and arouind your seats and you are frustrated by it then the burden is on you. I don't agree with it and there seems like there should be a middle ground but you are simply going to have to move. Again I don't agree with it but I certainly wouldn't allow it to ruin my experience. My guess is you would have carte' blanche' to sit where ever you wanted, try a different angle, higher or closer to the glass or a different side and if a usher tried to move you then you stand your ground and demand something be done in and around your original seats. I can tell you the behavior you are describing DOESN'T happen around my seats on cheep beer nights |

Maybe it's time for the Cyclones to think about certain areas for certain things. Number one, how about a "family" section with no alcohol behind one of the nets. Another could be to limit beeramids to only the four corners (116,104,126 and 134) of the arena. This would allow the fun of the stack not interrupting too much fan view around the arena. Finally get the trash bags out and collect the empties after the 2nd intermission to draw a close to the stacking for the final period of play. |

People are just use to the empty seats and peace and quiet when nobody came to the games. Im happy to watch drunks be drunks. As long as it means $$ signs for the organization and butts in the seats it all equals me getting my hockey fix. Its a sporting event you take the good with the bad. you see it in every sport! had a guy behind us think a penalty was two minutes for "smashing" he was clearly there for the beer.
I get more irritated with the security making people move out of the cup holder seats after a whole season of not caring. I understand companies/individuals pay for those. but when its an empty arena who cares where you sit as long as your not taking someones seat who is there. Its bad customer service. And if the companies actually care they should make more of an effort to fill the seats in the first place. It wasnt until a few games ago that they began being seat Nazis'. (And yes I understand you are assigned to a seat so sit there blah blah blah.. thats not my point) |

Anyone else got little things they want to bitch about?
If I paid extra for the cup holder seats and someone came and sat in those seats who didnt belong I would be upset and complain to the front office which is what probably happened. Its like going to a Reds game and trying to sit in the box seats when you see one empty. These seats are more comfortable, cost more, and not just another empty seat.
Meanwhile in the land of hockey, the team is playing well, have settled on a #1 goalie, and continue to find a way with a never ending change in lineups. Looking forward to this weekend with three games in four days while siting in my seat. |

| Well, beeramids certainly weren't a problem for anyone last night. Perhaps that's because they ran out of cold beer prior to the opening faceoff. They were then loading the beer coolers with warm beer - the very same $2 beer they were promoting. Maybe that robust crowd of 2,399 was a thirsty lot. Unbelievable! Cyclone game operations are incomprehensibly incompetent. |

| That's pretty funny. It's a shame that things don't seem to run smoothly but what goes around comes around. |
Hockey is life. All the rest is just small stuff.

My wife and I are one of the "low-lifes" that sat in the premium seats despite having lower price actual seats. In the past if someone came with tickets we apologized, got up and moved to another seat. I never once saw anyone make a fuss about leaving a seat that wasn't theirs. One night a single group of four managed to make at least 30 people change seats because they finally showed up 6 minutes into the first and had to have their "own" seats and ushers made everyone take their own seats. Up in 162 it seems one couple wants to play hardball and run all of us low-lifes out this year. Oh well, I guess we'll just sit somewhere else . |

Here are my thoughts on this season.
THE TEAM First off, I hate to sound complacent when the Clones are in first place, but the last couple of games have been really boring. The passing is not crisp, the players seem to bunch up on offense, etc. But its not just the Cyclones, the other teams look terrible as well. I guess I am just spoiled by the excellent hockey I saw prior to the NHL starting up.
THE FANS Next, the drunks don't bother me at all. Around me, they all sit down by the boards while we are about 15 rows up. Plus, we are surrounded by season ticket holders who are real hockey fans. Perhaps if the dollar beers where light beer it would help.
THE FACILITY OPERATIONS I hate that City BBQ and Cold Stone are gone. So frustrating that they always go with the cheapest concession options available. I talked to the guy from City BBQ, and he said that the arena insisted that he keep his station open for every event at the arena, not just hockey games. He said that at one event - a circus I think - he only made six sales all night.
TEAM OPERATIONS This area is my biggest complaint. We park on the GABP side of the arena and have to walk all the way to the other side to redeem old season tickets, and now they have blocked off the walkway on the north side of the arena because of the construction. They used to appreciate season ticket holders more, but I don't feel like paying for my tickets in advance allows me any entitlements that are worthwhile. There are lots of small courtesies they could provide that wouldn't cost them a thing.
Finally, I have given it nearly an entire season and I must say that I really miss Wildman. Just not the same without him. |
