Rumors are flying around that U.S. Bank Arena has proposed a 100 million dollar renovation in hopes of luring the University of Cincinnati's men's basketball program to play their home games at the arena. As an alum this is would enhance the basketball team's profile, but as a diehard Cyclones fan I'm worried what this would do to our team who already get the shaft for weekend dates when concerts are interested in coming.
Here is a link to message board discussing the rumors. The rumors started on Twitter.

It seems that Xavier did a fair job back in the days when they were co-tennants at the Gardens, I never heard of any schedule conflicts.
My issue would be with the US BANK owners and their percieved loyalties with the Cyclones and fans. If someone in the US bank's administration feels that the revenue generated by the Bearcats coupled with the loss or at least break even with the Clones and we might see talk about losing the Clones and if you spend 100 million to lure the Bearcats and the Clones are ripe to lose a bunch. This would be concerning for me in all respects of the word, seeing I have ZERO interest in basketball and as a disclaimer to all who might try to remind me.......I know that this area is more a basketball region than hockey. How long would a 100 million dollar renovation take? The Bearcats have a place to play during a renovations where as the Clones do not......well maybe, a return to the gardens perhaps?

Seriously doubt UC would leave their on campus arena to come downtown.

The schedule can easily be worked out as Bearcats only have about 15-18 home games a year and many of those are weekday games over a 3-4 month period. My biggest concern from the Cyclones part is what such an renovation does to the availability of the facility itself during the renovation. In short will it be shut down for a period of time that includes part of the hockey season. If that happened I guess the clones could use the Gardens for a period of time or a season

All in all I cant see the economics of it. To put a $100M into the arena to pick up 15-18 college basketball games is not a sound investment especially as they would have to split proceeds from those games with UC who already gets everything from their arena. I would also be suspect of keeping student support at the same level. Easy to leave your dorm and walk a block in the cold. Much different if you need to walk and take a bus or a car etc etc. Would make sense for UC and the Bengals to use Paul Brown. I just don't see the attendance at basketball games increasing that much moving them off campus. By the way--anyone seen the ticket prices for ACC games!!!.

From the link discussing the possible renovations, wouldn't not only the lure of the bearcats but the possibility of hosting NCAA tournaments be a draw as well? and lastly maybe we are not just talking about luring the bearcats. With a 100 million dollar renovations is there somnething else out there the US bank folks are eyeing? Just a question, NOT NHL talk. Does US bank arena miss out on any other events that would easily come if the arena was renovated?

Yes U.S. Bank Arena gets passed up by a lot of big acts. Many acts are bypassing Cincinnati due to lack of a modern arena. They go to Columbus or Louisville, and know Cincinnatians will travel there.

The Shoemaker Center on UC campus is the most outdated arena in town. The sightlines are horrific, the concourse is non existent, and there are seats view that is blocked by the rafters. UC wants to update the Shoe, but have wisely decided to renovate and update Nippert Stadium first.

Cincinnati needs an updated arena, but losing the Cyclones is not worth it to me. I love my Bearcats, but am not much of a basketball fan. I watch them during the tournament and big games, but hockey and football come first in this household. I can't bear the thought of not being able to take my family to a Cincinnati Cyclones game at the cost of basketball.

I am less concerned about any false renovation talk, and was more concerned about the team changing jerseys for next year. Luckily had it confirmed that they decided against switching for the next season. Our logo and jersey and font have been reviewed before as one of the best in the minors. Don't change it for a while please!

gfd28, so you can confirm that the renovation talk is false? Never heard a thing about changing the logo. I would like to see a different thrid jersey however.

Just saying, the renovation is of less importance in my book. Present day example is Gwinnett getting stiff end on their home games. We are owned by management. They love their minor league sports team. Attendance continues to grow. Improvements or not, Cycs gonna be around for a while. But the jersey deal disappointed me until I confirmed they keeping em for another year.

Bags, That wouldn't be too bad...kinda fun. gfd28, I'm kinda a pessimist from time to time in regards to business men and women. It's all about money and there seems to be no more loyalties, and a good example is Gwinnett, hopefully what you say is accurate about Cyclone management and they are loyal. I have no reason to believe they are not however when someone gets an idea.....and bam, US Bank arena throws a stinker like the arena Gwinnett plays in.
