It was a new promotion for the Cyclones and brought in a lot of families with kids. My daughter was thrilled with the give away light saber! We didn't stay for the jersey auction but there was a lot of buzz in the stands about it.
It wasn't the greatest of games played for the Cyclones however. The defense continues to be suspect and the offense seemed to struggle (perhaps the addition/subtraction of players recently) to keep the puck in the offensive zone.
New fans always seem to get into the shoot out so they were not disappointed. A win all they way around, in my opinion.
The idea is new for the Cyclones, but not new to minor league sports or even minor league hockey. It is usually a very popular promotion where ever it is done.
I thought it was pretty cool seeing all the lightsabers glowing when the lights were down. Also very amusing to see the ref take the ice wearing a Darth Vader mask, very nice touch! Stayed for the auction and I don't think any jersey went for under $500 with 3 hitting the $1000 mark!!!
