ZZZZZ--wow 18 whole shots in 64 minutes with one goal again at home. I think the only thing the Cyclones lead the league in is the ability of the defensemen to skate backwards. On the tying goal the goal scorer got the puck in his own end after a face-off and skated the entire length of the ice down the right side to INSIDE the dot where he fired and not ONE Cyclone player challenged him at any point including coming into the zone at the blue line. I know our scheme is to play a soft zone and take away the shooting lane but that was an awful awful play. We don't challenge the puck handler anywhere and are abysmal at clearing the puck. Every night the opposition has way to much time in our end per shift.

But it was our inability to score or even mount scoring threats that continue to amaze me. Does anyone remember one difficult save their goalie had to make last night? I don't. Seems our offensive scheme is to bring the line into the zone take one shot from a distance and then begin to skate backwards.

Finally and most amazingly I found this gem in the league statistics which I think shows where our home record is so bad and our goals per game t home is well under 2. Guess who is last in the league in PP efficiency with an 8.5% average? Now--are you sitting down--this less than 10% conversion rate is made up of a 9th best in the league 14.3% on the road and a world record 0%---yes I said 0%--conversion rate at HOME!!!!. We are 0/43 at home. Not one single power play goal at home in 11 games and 43 chances!!!. Thats 86 minutes or over four periods of having a man advantage and not one goal to show for it. Think I might have found the reason they cant win at home. Similar number of chances in the league show the following results: SC is 9/43, EV is 8/42, FW is 5/42,FL is 6/41, and AS is 7/40. I have watched the game for a great many years and never have seen anything close to a 0/43 streak let alone at home. Too bad we dont have the coaches show this year. I would love to hear the answer to that stat!!

Not sure what game the folks who selected the three stars were watching, but Wings defenseman Sam Ftorek should have been the first star. He was the best player on the ice. Nothing flashy, just made the right decisions with the puck and was always in the right position. He was on the ice for both Wings goals, too, assisting on the OT GWG.

A lot of the things Ftorek did last night that helped the Wings skate out of U.S. Bank Arena with two points don't show up on the stat sheet, which is what the three star selections at U.S. Bank Arena are always based on.

You're exactly right. We need to find ways to get SOMETHING on the PP. I mean, to not score once all year so far is pretty weak. As many chances as they have had, I would've hoped by now that they could get things going. What was even weirder to me last night was how few shots Kalamazoo got in the first period, then got a whole bunch late. It is definitely frustrating.

0/43 does suggest a certain amount of bad luck. In addition to being very bad of course. Nonetheless, the offense is just sorry and the abysmal PP just highlights this. Meagan is the only one who generates regular chances for the Cyclones other than Almeida. Is Almeida hurt or did he get called up? If he's a healthy scratch, then put me in the perplexed category.

Speaking of Megan, I thought he was the star of the game. In addition to being the only offensive threat, his defense was stellar. He was often the first forward back even after being the deepest in the offensive zone. He deserves a call up and no return from San A. Imagine what the offense will look like after he's gone for good. Thanks for all the "future considerations" coach. LOL

Ftorek has been a very heady hockey player for a long time. He was a veteran when he played here in 06-07 and rarely makes a mistake on the ice. He's got an NHL caliber slap shot as well. Probably should have played defense his entire career instead of the just the past 2 or 3 seasons. Great as a PP QB as well.

He skates slower than a dump truck with a flat tire. That's the only reason that he's been a career AA player other than the good portion of a year he spent in the AHL with Manchester a decade ago.

The offensive home offense

11 home games
22 goals for (2.0/game)
1 empty net goal/2 SO goals/1 OT goal
18 regulation goals (1.64/game)

Last 9 home games (this is one quarter of a season)
15 goals for
2 SO goals
13 regulation goals (1.44/game)

Record last 9 home games 3-5-1. 2 of 3 wins in SO.

First 2 home games 4 fights: Luciani, Turgeon, MacDonald (2)

Last 9 home games 2 fights: MacDonald, Turgeon

Rename this team The Cincinnati Crew. It's a soccer team (no scoring, no fighting, and lots of whining to the officials) disguised as a hockey team.

The last quarter season of home games has been the worst and most boring Cyclones hockey since the return from suspension, imo.

Thanks for rooting out that stat. It seems too improbable to be true. Once again, I will defer to those of you that know more than me about these things....Is it the personnel or the scheme? Perhaps this ties back to an earlier conversation about the team needing veteran leadership and role models. Also, since this team is so reliant on franchise players, I wonder how different the clones playing style is from our AHL affiliates.
