What I seem to notice the most in that fight was Chaz Johnson looked like he pulled his
own jersey off and had it wrapped around McDonald's head. Chaz is the master of cheap shots
and "hit and run".
Great crowd and good hockey for the first two periods. Then Wheeling started yapping and
knew heck was going to break loose when Turgeon stepped on the ice. Don't get me wrong,
I'm not blaming the fight on him. Will give him credit though for giving the big crowd
something to talk about !!!

There was a time when 7,800 for a hockey game on a Saturday night in Cincinnati was considered a disappointment.

ECHL announces fines, suspensions

Add This

January 26, 2014

The ECHL on Sunday announced the following fines and suspensions resulting from ECHL Game #424, Wheeling at Cincinnati, on Jan. 25.

Wheeling’s Chaz Johnson has been suspended indefinitely pending a review and has been an undisclosed amount under Rule #28 – Supplementary Discipline for his actions at 13:59 of the third period.

Johnson will miss Wheeling’s game against Cincinnati today (Jan. 26) and any further discipline will be announced later this week.

Cincinnati’s David MacDonald has been suspended indefinitely pending a review and has been fined an undisclosed amount under Rule #28 – Supplementary Discipline as a result of his actions at 13:59 of the third period.

MacDonald will miss Cincinnati’s game at Wheeling today (Jan. 26) and any further discipline will be announced later this week.

Wheeling’s Patrick McGrath has been fined an undisclosed amount under Rule #28 – Supplementary Discipline as a result of his actions at 13:59 of the third period.

Under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the ECHL and the Professional Hockey Players’ Association, player fines collected by the ECHL are given to the PHPA for its ECHL Player’s Hardship Fund.

Wheeling head coach Clark Donatelli has been fined an undisclosed amount as a result of failing to control his bench at 13:59 of the third period.

This goes' out to all those people who have been complaining about we needed to be more exciting team on the ice. Well there you go, now our captain has been suspended indefinitely. I hope you are all happy. Now do not misunderstand me, Chaz had it coming, and David came to our players defense from a cheap shot from Chaz. It's just there are certain people on this forum that continually complain about wishing to see more fights. I personally find fighting night in and night out to be barbaric. A fight should be used only when deemed necessary.

Anyone have any thoughts on why MacDonald would be suspended? My take is that he was defending a teammate from a sucker punch. The only thing I was thinking was whether he was on the ice when the original altercation between Turgeon and McGrath took place. If he wasn't, then a suspension for leaving the bench would be appropriate. Personally I'm glad he stood up for his teammate even though he got suspended.

The ECHL totally made the right call on this... Johnson went after a defenseless Cyclone with a cheap shot... MacDonald deserved a suspension for the retaliation... but its nothing compared to the reason why he did it... MacDonald is a true Cyclone!
