I'm not sure if this has been covered previously but with Indianapolis getting a team getting a team now should we assume that the Cyclones will be moved to the Atlantic division in 2014? |

It has to a certain extent, and the consensus is, who knows. While Cincy moving to the Atlantic is certainly an option, it's just as likely that nothing happens or the League combines the Atlantic with the North and just has a 2 division Eastern Conference. Since the playoffs no longer reward the division winners with the top seeds, it really doesn't matter.

I wish this was simpler to just realign, but the divisions would be completely misformed... I can forsee 5 scenarios
- the ECHL doing nothing and continuing with division play in name only - Cincinnati going to the Atlantic (there goes the Indiana and Ohio rivalries) - the Atlantic and North divisions merging (that would result in a severe imbalance in the East) - the Atlantic and South divisions merging (bad travel, but closer balance in the east) - same thing, and Wheeling back with Cincinnati in a division (the way it should be, but will the others go along?)

@cman - Why does there need to be balance? There is no benefit for winning a division.
The Atlantic merge with the South? Yeah, Elmira in the South makes a lot of sense. If anything Cincinnati and/or Evansville join the South leaving Reading, Elmira, Wheeling, Kzoo, Toledo and Ft Wayne in the North. Cincinnati and Evansville would likely fight that one big time. |

That would work perfectly, Elvis... but would either one of those two teams be willing to travel to Florida, Georgia and South Carolina on a quasi-regular basis? |

No re-alignment would be based on a "benefit for winning a division"... just for the sake of fairness and equality in the schedule is all... I only suggested an Atlantic-South Merger and a Wheeling transfer to the North just to level things up...
... let's make this the last time I justify anything :) |

Of course not, but merging the Atlantic and South was your idea and Elmira or Reading traveling South regularly makes even less sense. Cincinnati and Evansville are the 2 most southern teams in the North/Atlantic so if there were going to be a re-alignment it would be the 'Clones or IceMen heading south, not Elmira and or Reading. Hence the reason it will either be the status quo or the Atlantic merging with the North. Would the later be "unbalanced" as you put it? Certainly, but since there is no benefit for winning the division what does that matter? |

None of any scenarios make sense, including mine, because any popped up by anyone is just talk... ultimately its the ECHL's decision... personally, Elvis, I agree with you that division titles mean nothing... I also see pros in Cincy and Evansville in the South, but I just don't see either of them accepting that kind of arrangement... I guess we will see in June when they sort this all out LOL
Meanwhile I write all this from Charlotte, where the AHL powers that be decided it would be wiser that Charlotte is forced to go west at least 25 of the 38 road games they play... I wish they continued with the four division, division playoff format.... the NHL adopted that to an extent and, and it makes things so much simpler |

Like your idea of 3 team divisions BP except I would switch us and Fort Wayne for geographic reasons. Would be us, Indy and Evansville in one division and then Kzoo, Toledo, and Fort Wayne.
Big elephant in the room is the fate of the three Atlantic teams. They always seem to be year to year. |

If the north was two divisions
West: Kalamazoo Fort Wayne Indianapolis Evansville Cincinnati
East: Toledo Wheeling Reading Elmira
Checking the map, we are closer to Wheeling but Toledo is closer to Elmira and Reading.

Do you know where these cities fall on the map? Apparently not because this makes no sense. Ft Wayne is real close to Toledo & Kalamazoo and Cincy is a lot closer to Evansville & Indy |
