First we had a game on Super Bowl Sunday.To their credit,they had it
in the afternoon and we could watch both.Now we have on Sunday the
Daytona 500-the biggest race of the year. So here comes the Cyclones
with a 2PM Sunday game. And they wonder why our attendance is down! |

| i'm not sure it will make a big difference this sunday. i don't think the average NASCAR fan (please note that i did not say all NASCAR fans) is a regular hockey fan...i mean where are all those people that show up on NASCAR night the rest of the season; sitting at home pondering what happened to dick trickle perhaps. besides who really wants to sit around and watch a bunch of guys turn left all afternoon when there is hockey to be seen. |

Sorry Elvis but I guess I'll have to tape the race and bring my portable tv
down and split viewing. I'm not as hard core as I used to be, but I still love
my Nascar racing and this sucks (excuse my language) ! |

i'm sure that there are a other few cylones fans that feel your pain bags, but the truth is if the hockey and NASCAR had a large crossover fanbase those extra 2500 people that show up when the cyclones have NASCAR night would show up regularly thoughout the rest of the season.
all i'm saying is that i don't think it will have a big effect on attendance. i'm sure that there would be some disappointed fans of there were a game scheduled during something important like the ping-pong world championships or westle mania, but i don't think it would have a big influence on attendance. i think the fact that the game is sunday will have the biggest effect, regardless of whatever else might be happening. |

My biggest problem with this year is management seems to be killing us with the
loaded down weekday games,now two Sundays on major sporting events and lack of
info on giveaways on promotion nights.How about tomorrow night-what is the story
for Valentine's night? Look at the "Jungle Kat" promotions and we have had what-
one good bobblehead that no one hardly knew about,the great "White Out" where
flea market quality t-shirts were given out and finally some "Thundersticks" to
the kids the last few games. For all us long time fans,take 5 minutes and look
around your house at some of the former Cyclone items that keep us reminded of the
team even in the off season.Oh well, we probably have a game scheduled for the
college Final Four games also!! |

having games scheduled during march madness is a given....they can't take the month of march off. as far as the schedule goes they have to work around the buildings schedule, so that means some conflicts with other events. as long as i don't have to miss the ping-pong worls championships or wrestle mania i'll deal.
as far as promotions go, i agree 100%. there has been 0 promotion of the promotions. whatever, happened to commemorative hockey pucks and such. while i have seen updated commercials about the games and promotions they are going to have to do a lot better if they want to actually raise attendance rather than resorting to the dayton method (actual attendance + 1800). |

I couldnt agree more!
I give the Cyclones a little slack on the schedule since the season for them was a bit of a suprise. I know I had given up on the Cyclones returning after the RailRaiders wrecked since the ECHL had already announced their schedule. So I know we got shoe-horned into current schedules which meant sub-prime homedates, but the promotion thing I cant find an excuse for. I have a collection of the give-aways from years past that I began to gather for a Cinci Hockey memorial before the Boys of Winter returned.
I am hoping the promo savvy Jungle Kats will rub off on the Cyclones.
If the Jungle Kats draw well, I am hoping the rising tide will lift the Cyclone boat too.
Next year there are no excuses for anything less than a promo blitz and hockey hype! |

Here is an idea for a promotion next year.First find a sponsor who will
pick up the tab for the jerseys in exchange for their name on the jersey
(remember Valvoline), their name on the ice and one board ad on each
side of the boards.They would also be responsible for two "extra" sets
for the year,one for opening day and one novelty (Nascar,St.Patricks).
The opening game jerseys would have one raffled off each game (dollar
a chance style) and the winner gets to choose one from whatever is left.
The money collected would go to the club for salaries,promotions or
whatever they want,as long as connected to the Cyclones. |

thats a really good idea bags. i've noticed a lot of teams with sponsor stickers on their helmets. didn't the ohio casualty sponsor jerseys for a time too.
on a lighter note...maybe roto-rooter could sponsor twister.

I think next season will be much better as far as promotions go. This season was focused on getting a good team together and produce good hockey. Sponsors want to make sure they will not be wasting their money, and now they see the Clones mean business. I look forward for all the cool things we may have next season. As far as the promos now, you can't really complain. They give someone an empty net chance for $20,000. Noone does that, normally you have to shoot through the little hole in the board. And almost every game someone wins a vacation. I wish we would do more post game skates, I had fun skating with the fans the last time we did it.

First off TC,that upside down slide was classic! My wife spotted the
top covering,but we thought it was just to keep things from being
thrown in or something.That slide move you up into "Snowbird" status
and every little bit more you can give us (that's easy to say outside
of a mascot costume)will add to the fun.By the way,would you have a
problem with sharing a night with "Snowbird" ? It would be a great
promotion to have some of the old players back and Snowbird too! I
would rather see Iann Kidd,Paul Lawless,Doug Dadswell... than the
reality show "stars" we had that one night.

Correct Channel 9 has the rights. He isn't with the Clones anymore. He was pretty cool. I worked with him back in the day, took the football idea from him. I can't compete with his YMCA skit though. I remember the AHL all star game here in town and the Houston Aero mascot did a handstand on a chair down the ice, so I figured I'd do my best to beat that. Glad you liked it. I'm gonna' try and maybe do a spin while upside down and somehow land back on my skates. Will take some work, and I was hurting the couple days after I warmed up before the game trying it. Will be a crowded/special game thing I think.
