AARRGGHH!! I pulled into the East Garage at 6:10pm... Gate attendant says "Game is delayed until 9pm. You can either go ahead in and wait, or come back." So I decided to stay... Thought I'd walk down to Game Day to pass the couple hours... Well... walked done to hook up with Elvis and find out the game had been CANCELED! So I go back to the Garage to see about getting my Parking Pass back to use on Tuesday.. "Uh.. We can't give that back to you. You'll need to call the office about it." Geezz.. I'd only been parked in the garage for like 15-20 mins!!
Jes... Thanks for posting the "heads up".. UNFORTUNATELY, I didn't check the message board before I left at 5:40pm! Oh well! Hopefully your message saved someone else the frustration of driving all the way downtown just to find out the game had been canceled.

It certainly did. And at least it's better than driving all the way to Dayton just to see a balsa wood airplane and a halloween pageant.

Yeah, a real bummer all the way around.
I hate to do this, but I have to take up for (to a certain degree) Dayton's Zamboni crew. It was a hydraulic line that broke, and when that happens you up a creek because the whole thing is run on hydraulics. Unless the hoses were just decrepit and dry-rotted, they probably had no advance notice.
When something like that fails, you're toast. It probably was not any kind of gross mis-care for the machine.
Their real failing, IMHO, is not having a backup machine. Old ones that function can be had for $3000 - $10,000. A far sight less than the $70k+ to buy a new one. But, since the team doesn't own the building, they don't really have any say in it, unless they wanted to purchase one themselves.
End of rant. The Bummers are still our be-otch's to the north. |

What made me mad was I called my Ticket Rep and he told me that game was still on for about 930 and he said Wheeling should be in Columbus about now(this was about 615) and come to find out they didn't even leave Wheeling. If I knew that I wouldn't even drove all the way from Florence KY and waste my gas and spend $6 to park. I think that was a load of crap. |

Hey Guido,Wednesday night Twister had an accident with a giveaway shirt and the shirt got sucked into the Zamboni.Needless to say,the Zamboni had to stop to clear the t-shirt.My estimate of 2 minutes later the BACK-UP Zamboni was on the ice and ready to finish the job. Luckily the shirt was cleared and the primary could resume the job. Bottom line, you don't try to get by with one unit for just that reason. As for parking tonight involving a refund, I was kind of mad when we had to pay the open house night when the riverboat has the free PUBLIC LANDING parking for their business operation. As for my ticket rep,I didn't even get an email.I learned first of the delay here and second the cancellation again here. |

Have heard/seen nothing about a spill on I70. Even if, traffic could be re routed around it on US 40, the Great National Road.
Besides, Bags and others have a right to gripe if they wasted their evening and some money.
And further besides, it's fun to gripe and snipe about such trite tripe .
Yeah-and I was impressed we had a backup zamboni. |

Thanks Hakeedude for backing me up.Guido,no harm meant on my second post except that Dayton (or anyone else without a back-up Zam)is asking for a disastor. Also like the Dayton night, an immediate refund on the parking or at least a voucher for one free hockey parking should have been given to anyone parking. I too was impressed how fast the second Zam was out there. |

| we are in pittsburgh now for the rangers-penguins game tonight. yesterday just east of columbus a tractor trailer flipped over causing long delays on both sides of interstate 70. that is why their bus was late. |
What you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

I'm not saying this isn't the truth, but last night when everyone was calling us telling us a million versions I called USBA and spoke with one of the reps and he told me that the bus broke down and of the cancellation. He also told me that by time Wheeling would've gotten another bus and driven here, it obviously would have been a late game and that it "wouldn't have been too enjoyable for the fans at that time," and also Dierks Bentley is playing there tonight and they wouldn't have had suffecient time to tear down the rink so that his crew could come in and put up his stage.
I do agree though that **** happens and it's not the end of the world. I had three coats on ready to walk out the door and I got the call about the cancellation, so I held tight and eventually heard FOR SURE that it wasn't gonna happen. Tried to make sure everyone that I know personally knew. IMO, if you know it's delayed for something like that, why don't you hang tight until you hear if it is going to happen at all or not? It's not like Wheeling is right up the road... was obviously gonna take awhile for them to get here regardless. I guess calling USBA and finding out before you waste gas and parking money makes too much sense? Just my opinion..... |
