| that is so stupid... we had a sucessful hockey team before why cant we now? and by us who are regulars are going to keep us there... and as good as we are playing we will get more people in our stands. I talk to people at work all the time and they are like well I will have to check them out I tell them we are the best in our conference and they are like "unlike any other sports team in this city good for them!" |

At this point, it comes down to John Hamel getting the attention of the media. The Cyclones offer a good product.. that's been especially evident with how exciting the past few games have been. This has little to do with ticket prices or winning streaks and it has more to do with the people of Cincinnati being encouraged to give the team and the arena another chance. The best way to do that is to have coverage in the papers.
If the media thinks that Cyclones games aren't newsworthy then Hamel should come up with angles that are newsworthy. For example, had the Cyclones gotten a SO win Saturday night and it wasn't for a record, then the news would NEVER have covered it... but since there's a story attached it made the news... It's up to Hamel to find newsworthy stories within the franchise. That way they can inherently plug the Cyclones while talking about whatever tangent subject. There are a million ideas out there... you've just got to find them. |

If Cincinnatians have said anything about local sports in the last 30 years, its that they don't want to drive downtown to watch anything unless its Bengals or Reds. For whatever reason, US Bank Arena offers no appeal. It's where franchises go to die. The Cyclones are the latest artisitc hit and box office flop. Attendance has been better since the team lowered ticket prices to $8. But I wouldn't be surprised to see the team leave after this season. Very sad.[/b]
The man is apparently listening to the half dozen idiots who spout the same stupidity. Hopefully Saturday's game will change his mind and he will change his blog. I don't want to get into the "which arena is better" battle. Each has it's fans and we will never have everyone agree on one or the other but we need to watch hockey where ever it is played. Right now it is at USBA.

Me too and new glass around the rink would be nice too :)
my camera seconds that one
Now that I can agree with. I like to sit close to the glass in the corner and it is ridiculous how bad the glass is down there. I was promised before the season started that we would get new glass. The glass they did replace distorts and if you are in the corner looking at an angle you may as well not bother to look. On the other hand I am looking straight ahead through major scratches that have been there since at least 2003. PLEASE USBA - put in some decent glass.

Okay first of all John Hamel has worked his ass off trying to get the media to cover our team. WE ALL HAVE! Every single one of my friends that goes to the games has emailed and/or called around to the reporters trying to spark their interest, but for one reason or another... they just aren't grasping it.
I personally know that John Hamel devoted weeks of his time to working on the story for Pink in the Rink... ONE GAME! WEEKS OF TIME! And the article was not even that impressive. He can only do what he is doing know, he can't force them to write the articles. I think it's especially crappy of you to call him out on this issue. You're a Cyclones fan?? WHAT ARE YOU DOING FOR THIS CAUSE? |

| I dont think he hung Hamel out to dry. Hamel does a good job but i agree that it could be better, When you are the PR guy for a team its your job to make sure the public knows about the team (thats what the P stands for). That being said, personally I dont think anybody can be faulted. ECHL minor league hockey just isnt that popular in cincinnati to the everyday person. Its not the Reds, Bengals or the Bearcats so the masses dont really notice. Its unfortunate but i think if the Cyclones had a commercial on every 5 minutes it wouldnt change that much. Maybe im wrong I dont know, thats just my opinion |

| You're right, my intention is absolutely not to hang John Hamel out to dry. I'm just saying that the price is right and the product is good... this is what needs to happen next. |

You're right in ONE point. That no one can be faulted. It's not John Hamels fault that we get ****ty coverage. BUT no one needs to come on here acting like he doesn't try or hasn't put forth effort to get us the coverage that we need. Like I said in the above post, HE PUT WEEKS OF HIS TIME INTO GETTING COVERAGE FOR ONE GAME! And thats not the only time he has spent time on it... I'm just using that as an example bc thats SO much time for ONE night, and I think that shows how devoted he is.
So let me ask something... what was Don Helbig's role with the Ducks?? If I remember correctly, the Ducks were given the same BS coverage in the Cinci media scope. Whether or not the post was meant to bash Hamel, the blame is being placed on him. |

LET ME REQUOTE YOU. "IT COMES DOWN TO JOHN HAMEL GETTING THE ATTENTION OF THE MEDIA" ... "HAMEL SHOULD COME UP WITH ANGLES THAT ARE NEWSWORTHY" ... "ITS UP TO HAMEL..."
I'm not saying you're calling him a slob at his job, but you're certainly not commending him for it! And again, I will repeat... WHAT ARE YOU DOING AS A FAN TO HELP THIS? If you have all these bright ideas, LETS HEAR THEM! Put them to work PLEASE! You know how to run the table right? |
