| There really isnt a whole lot you can do as a fan to get the cyclones into the media. He said he goes to most of the games which is as big a help as anything. The more people there the better. Also who said anything about the ducks? Thats beating a dead horse and bringing the hockey war up again (which is DUMB) I dont mean to sound like an a$$ or anti cyclones because trust me Im not but the simple fact remains... While Hamel does a great job he does need to find a better way to get to the media, I mean high school bowling is getting better coverage than the clones are right now. Im blaming the media but when the same stuff doesnt work you do need to find a different angle and a different way to sell your product. |

TRUST ME, I'm not bringing up any hockey war. You have NO idea where I stand on that, so let's just not. I was just stating that neither hockey team in Cincinnati has gotten amazing coverage, no matter who their press guy was. I agree that TWOMINUTES going to most of the games is a help. I have said before that I welcome any and everyone that wants to fill those seats! That's not the point here though. |

I'm not exactly sure what the question I'm dodging is, but I think you're referring to the question, "What are you doing for this cause?" As stated before, I go to most games. I used to buy tickets individually up until the open house, and then I bought a large ticket package knowingly overpaying ($11/game) because I knew that purchasing a ticket package would be my little part in helping the team look better to the league.
Do I work for the Ducks? No... and no, I didn't when they were around. I used to attend both games when both teams were around. Those, my friends, were the good 'ol days. I don't understand where the Ducks came into play anyway... |

ok .............. ENOUGH! The point here is to find a way to get medias' attention.
Media coverage of hockey has ALWAYS been a issue for hockey fans here in Cincinnati. Goes back even to Swords and Stingers. (Can't say how coverage was for Mohawks.) If the sport played does not have 'Ball' in its' name or played with a round object, Media of this town has not/is not interested. This is a fact we hockey fans have had to deal with for years. We can write and call and email and scream about it..............but will it change??? Doubtfull!!!! But we must not give up trying. Maybe one day we will get it through their 'thick heads'!
The best we can do as hockey fans is keep hounding the media to take notice and wear the colors proudly and get the word out ourselves! Wear your Cyclones Ts' about town for simple errands; talk to family and friends and get them to the games; if someone says' to you "I thought the Clones were gone" (I still hear this)....let them know they are back and how they are doing. As a season ticket holder, I have used my unused tickets for friends that have not been to a game in a while or even a few that have never been and have sence gone on their own.
The simple point is this........we have to keep working as fans to get our sport of hockey and the Cyclones noticed!! |

I don't see anything wrong with what TWOMINUTES posted... In fact I agree with what he said. I don't think he was down playing Hamel... just stating that he either needs to STEP UP his efforts, or re-think his efforts and see if he can figure a new angle to get BETTER coverage. I think Hamel is doing a great job! Just needs to find that KEY marketing idea that brings in the people!
An idea... why not come up with some sorta incentive for the Fan to help promote the team? Maybe put together a "Fan Promo Pack" which would include stuff like Game Schedules, Merch. Coupons, Tix Coupons, etc... Have it setup so that it's trackable... so when someone comes to the game and uses the "Tix Coupon" it is registered that this particular Fan helped bring this person to the game. Then have some end-of-season (or maybe monthly) prizes for the TOP "New people bringer-in'er". Make it a "Game" or "Contest". But make the Grand Prize something WORTH wanting. They could even have a running "leaderboard" so you could see how you rank with other Fans.
It's probably too late this season to institute something THIS elaborte, but it may be something worth looking into over the summer for next Season! But in the mean-time, throw together simple "Fan Packs" and ADVERTISE this at the Arena... Have Wildman tell everyone to go to the Cyclones Customer Services Desk and pick up a "Fan Pack" (10-15 Game Schedules, Merch Coupons, Tix Coupons, Food/Drink Coupons). OR... Give the "Fan Pack" out as a promotion itself to everyone walking in the door! Make it "trackable" next season...
If they could get Fans to blanket the Tristate area with this type of material... I think it could Help.

I like what Banerlady said and especially Jevers. Insintives are a great way to get people to help. However, one of my questions are shouldn't this be a big priority of the fan club or do they do more for raising money? Im actually confused as to the situation with that because it sounds like what we have here is the making of a street team, but maybe this is another topic.
Anyway, as for doing our part of promoting, I live in Oxford some of the time going to school at Miami. Im sure you guys know Hockey is a BIG thing to us. Because of this I have been able to get people to come down to the games and they enjoy it. But, what I have really been thinking about was if there was something we could do with both the teams. The reason I say this is that where ever Miami's team goes, a lot of the students follow.
I had asked twister on facebook once about if there was ever a way for Miami and Cincy to play a game against each other, not even regulation maybe for charity or just for fun but hes right when he said that its not really possible because the ECHL team should always be better then the college team. Still I believe there is something that could be done with this.
I just know that having met you guys, having met some of the players and having met coach and seeing how nice everyone way and down to earth they are for the most part, that really makes me wanna support the team as much as I can. So with this "Fan Pack" idea, count me in!

The man is apparently listening to the half dozen idiots who spout the same stupidity. Hopefully Saturday's game will change his mind and he will change his blog. I don't want to get into the "which arena is better" battle. Each has it's fans and we will never have everyone agree on one or the other but we need to watch hockey where ever it is played. Right now it is at USBA.

Now that I can agree with. I like to sit close to the glass in the corner and it is ridiculous how bad the glass is down there. I was promised before the season started that we would get new glass. Jim, I like your idea. I think it could work well if done right.
As for Miami, why not play a double-header at USBA? Miami play at 5 and the Clones play after or something. I know I would LOVE seeing that!! |

Agreed... in all aspects! And as fans, those are things that we should do, rather or not we think it's going to always make a difference, it does sometimes. Especially with getting our own friends/family to games and they end up LOVING it and coming back. I know a ton of people that had that happen to them this season. I can think of at least 6 people off the top of my head that I personally know that had never been (or only one game YEARS AGO) and came this season and are now hooked. And that's the key.... turning the casuals and the no's into addicts. The team winning and offering an awesome atmosphere is going to make the biggest difference in that step. |
