Pete Rose had 59 hits over a 29-game span in 1973. Projected over a full season he would have had 329 hits. He finished with 230.

http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/boxscore?gid=2012031614 Results of last night's Montreal game. Even though I'm a big fan of DD, projected over an 82 game schedule would be zero goals, zero assists, zero points and a +/- rate of -82 ! Don't think that would even get him an ECHL job !

He's got 34 points in his last 34 games. I did ***VERY PROMINENTLY** include a caveat that he wouldn't finish in the top 5 if I did the same to everyone else in the league.
Factoring in his scoreless game last night-a game in which Montreal was on the PK for about 20 minutes-Desharnais is scoring at a point per game clip in what amounts to 41.4% of an NHL season.
If the concept that this guy might have NHL point per game potential seems outlandish based on this significant sample size, then I might suggest....well forget it. LOL.
Desharnais career has shown similar levels of improvement after a year of experience in the QMJHL and the AHL. Not so surprisingly, this streak began on game 87 of his NHL career-which coincides with a year of experience almost exactly.

You should apply at ESPN. They might have an opening in the Useless Information Department. |

Some people might be interested in point projections of a former Cyclone who is playing at a very high level in the NHL. Why these reasonably-based season projections would bother someone......??
Anyway, Desharnais was held scoreless last night vs. the NYIslanders in a 3-2 SO loss but did score a very pretty goal in the SO.
34 points in his last 35 games. 11 points in his last 10.
Over the past 36 games (half of the games Montreal has played all season), #1 center Desharnais' 34 points are more than the 2nd and 3rd line Montreal centers COMBINED. $6 million/yr. #2 center Tomas Plekanec has 17 points and former St. Louis Blue first round pick #3 center Lars Eller has 15 points. |

Every NHL GM and coaching staff would dismiss all of your statistical analysis on how valuable you think Desharnais is versus other players. There are lots of players that get 30-40 points that every team would choose to have over Desharnais, including Montreal.

Last 20 games:
Rick Nash 13 points (7g 6a) $7.8 million per year
David Desharnais 19 points (6g 13a) $750,000 year
50% more points for less than 10% of the price. |

I wouldn't have given him this high a rating for his play last week, but someone else evidently saw something that I didn't.
http://www.habsworld.net/article.php?id=2757
Players are rated from 1 to however many players play on a weekly (non-cumulative) basis. Rankings will be tracked weekly and averages provided.
quote: 1) David Desharnais: I'm not sure what's more impressive for his week, the fact he led the club in points or that he scored on a pair of impressive shootout moves. On a team bereft of any consistent scorers in the post-game skills contest, I'm inclined to think the latter is more significant. (Prev: 8 Avg: 6.50)

| NBC analyst Pierre McGuire has a great relationship with Canadiens owner Geoff Molson and could end up replacing Pierre Gauthier as GM. If McGuire is named GM it might not bode well for Desharnais' future in Montreal. He he tends to like bigger, faster, stronger players at the center ice position. |

I'm sure one of McGuire's first moves would to be to eliminate the only francophone worth a damn out of the Montreal line up. That would be a real PR coup. Get rid of a proven scorer on a goal starved team who is highly appreciated by the two best wingers on the team and a Frenchman to boot. McGuire has never been that drunk or that stupid.
McGuire has been mentioned as a candidate for the Montreal job for quite some time now....but thanks for the heads up anyway.
Look for Montreal legend and HHOF goalie Patrick Roy to be part of the Canadiens management team. Roy also happened to be former Cyclone Cedrick Desjardins junior coach when both won the Memorial Cup in 2006 with the Quebec Ramparts. Unfortunately, the Candiens backup goalie, Peter Budaj is signed through next season. |

Perhaps in your world Desjardins is who the Canadiens should have as their backup goalie, but in the real world Budaj is the better goalie which is why he's in the NHL and your boy is about to wrap up his sixth season in the minors. |

I wasn't. I said he should get a shot to show what he can do since he has nothing left to prove at the AHL level and Colorado isn't going anywhere. But that doesn't mean he can play in the NHL. He needs an opportunity to show what he can do but no team is going to go into the 2012-13 season with him as their backup unless he's proven he can handle the No. 2 job, and if necessary, be more than that if the No. 1 gets hurt. He can't show that unless he plays more than a couple games here and there.
Desjardins seems to have some intangibles that you like in a goaltender. He battles and competes every night. Reminds me in some ways of Chris Mason, who logged six-plus years in the minors before making it in the NHL. But he still struggles a bit with rebounds and handling the puck. He can get away with that in the AHL, but not in the NHL. And that might be what all the scouts see and why nobody in need of goaltending help this season made a move to acquire him and why Tampa Bay was willing to let him go.
Obviously, as your 14-year fan site history suggests, you'll disagree with me on every hockey-related matter until the cows come home. And that's fine. Not much fun if everyone always agrees on everything.
