Hopefully he gets a steady job in Syracuse. Riku has never panned out and is playing especially bad - probably back to europe for good after this season.

He's become what I thought he'd be: A journeyman career minor leaguer.

Yeah, me and all 30 NHL organizations that passed on him twice when they didn't draft him or sign him as an undrafted free agent after his career in the QMJHL ended following the 2006-07 season were wrong about Desharnais chances to play in the NHL.

You always seem to forget that part about every NHL passing him him, Scuba. No surprise though that you don't acknowledge that fact.

There isn't a scout in the NHL, MLB, NFL, NBA that hasn't been wrong. Multiple times.

Desharnais has earned his opportunity. But don't be surprised if he's not with the Canadiens next year. Montreal GM Marc Bergevin and assistant-GM Rick Dudley want more size down the middle.

That is all true Donnie, don't disagree with you, I half expected the "i've forgotten more about hockey than you know" comeback but your choice will work too. Here is the big issue with using your rational, not one of the thirty teams you mentioned above posted on a website devoted to promoting Cyclones hockey that David Desharnis didn't have a chance in the NHL, So if you take comfort in knowing that YOU and 30 NHL teams were wrong then so be it but in the end.....wrong is wrong.

Desharnais is currently a team-worst minus-5 and has just two assists. With more depth at center than they've had in recent years, including a first-round pick in 19-year-old Alex Golchenyuk, his time in Montreal appears to be winding down not long after it started.

still wrong, "he'll never play in the NHL" - by Donnie Hockey. I suppose I could dig up your exact comments but your opinions are well remembered by the folks here, regardless he's lasted far longer then you predicted.

He also shut out Springfield the night before 3-0. A perfect 120 minute weekend.

Desjardins needs nine more wins for 100 in his AHL career.

His stats remind you of another former Duck, Tom Askey. Career in
the AHL/IHL level and only a cup of coffee in the NHL.

Main difference is Desjardins is being held back mainly
by injuries.

Gave up a PP goal at 18:25 of the third period last night almost getting his third straight shut out in four days

Anders Linback at Tampa Bay is 43rd in the NHL in GAA and 41st in save percent. Mathieu Baron is 35 years old.

Desjardins isn't in the NHL because he's simply not good enough. I saw him make his NHL debut with Tampa Bay. He picked up the win but was the puck ringing off the post twice and once off the crossbar away from being down 4-0 within the first 10 minutes.

Askey had his share of injuries, too.

I figured you would have a spin to my post that would make Desjardins still
seem like a Friday night beer league level player ! If you look at Askey's
stats, year after year he spent in the AHL and only two looks at the NHL.
Will Desjardins make it in the NHL-probably not if the injuries keep mounting.
But if he can get his injuries under control and plays like he can, another NHL
shot should happen and Cyclones fans will cheer that chance.

The only way he gets another NHL shot is if a team has injuries, which is the only reason he has two NHL games on his resume.

Every NHL organization has at least two goalies that would be ahead of him on the depth chart, and most teams have 3-4 goalies. He's now at a point where every team has what they consider their goaltender of the future or at least someone they think has the upside to play in the NHL that is younger and they have an investment in (draft pick & money).

It would be great if he got another shot but that's only going to happen by circumstance (injuries).

Desjardins is a good AHL goaltender, similar to what former IHL Cyclones and AHL Ducks goaltender Frederic Cassivi was. As a career minor leaguer that can play well in the AHL, he's ideal for how the Hershey Bears work with Washington to construct their roster with a mixture of prospects and AHL veterans.
