Reggie, it doesn't look like Toledo's plan to regroup in Cincinnati worked out too well for them!! :)

If you go to the ECHL website there is an icon for the Kelly Cup Playoffs. Clicking on it opens up articles written about all the playoff games from last night. The Cyclones article is written by Chase Howell who is listed as a "contributor" for the Enquirer. Good article which I suppose is in the paper today. Anyone know who he is? Thanks for the coverage.
The BEST thing is the article is accompanied by 18 pictures that are among the best I have seen of a hockey game including two of the Vaive fight and one of wrap around goal. Check out the pictures. They are great |

They only blasted our attendance numbers because our player bragged about it

Of course, we shouldn't consider the fact that both of Toledo's games were on weekend nights, and our only home game thus far was on a Wednesday. Let's see how Friday pans out attendance-wise before we start making comparisons, eh Blade?

Yes, I agree. The weekend should be better at 100 Broadway. A pretty inequitable comparison. But I think Embach's comment struck a nerve. Nevertheless, I was somewhat disappointed in last night's crowd.

And as well, I'll eat a dozen hockey pucks if their attendance figures were actually 4,000 plus. We were up there Friday night- it wasn't even half full, more like 1500 tops. I thought they were supposed to report actual figures in the playoffs.

Hakeedude, that's also very surprising. Every time I've attended a game up there they've had excellent attendance. They seem to have a strong following.

If you want up-to-the minute game coverage with great pictures, Rob Huelsman has an article with pictures the day after the game. Go to www.prohockey news.com under the American Pro tab.ECHL section. |

Toledo has long been a strong hockey town with a strong Red Wing base for generations There is no such base here. They drew an average of about 6300 this year in a hockey arena that is only a few years old. The old barn there where the Storm played was a real "interesting" place to watch a game.

And talk about rabid fans in that old barn! Where did they go when they built the new place. Guess that's what happens when you change from being a "storm" into a "fish."

I agree Hakedude. People say that about the any of the old buildings as the new ones are more sterile and further from the ice. I grew up watching games in the old Boston Garden where the balconies virtually hung over the ice and you looked straight down. Might have a few rats running around your section but other than that it was great. New Garden isn't the same. Was lucky enough--and old enough--to have gone to games at the old Forum in Montreal and Maple Leaf Gardens and the new places there aren't as conducive to rabid fans either. I think thats why fans are so great at Wrigley Field and Fenway. You are all boxed in and right next to the action. For those of you who grew up here and are older enough, I understand Crosley field was like that and so much was lost when they moved. Newer parks like GABP are trying to find the balance but they are still not as good for fans to get into the game as the old venues. Everything else being equal, I would much rather watch the Cyclones at Cincinnati Gardens just for that reason. I know it is a dump but a great cozy place to watch hockey and get into the game.

I don't know we want this thread to turn into a Gardens vs US Bank but here it goes. Everyone has their opinions, and entitled to it but for me, NO WAY did I like the Gardens over US bank. I actually like doors on the stalls and absent of an entire toliet broken off at it's base like i've seen at the Gardens. It served it's purpose and is now obsolete...in my opnion. Now despite all of this, there are still many things I don't like about US Bank arena but I prefer it over the Gardens big time.

Wow! Not only did the Gladiator get jobbed by their home arena, they're now getting punked by their hometown newspaper. No article today about last night's game 3. It's as if the Enquirer is running their sports section. Too bad for them. Just one more example of how metro Atlanta isn't a sports town.
